Apple has launched a new update for the MagSafe Charger on Tuesday, Oct. 4. The iPhone maker readily makes it available for select iPhone versions including iPhone 12 and the later models, as well as AirPods.

Once you visit the settings of your device, you will see a different firmware number which is the new one: 255.0.0.0. The older firmware before that was 247.0.0.0.

The new MagSafe firmware version is 10M1821. Previously, it was 10M229 firmware, but with the update, there's no telling what difference it can make this time.

Apple Releases New MagSafe Charger Firmware Version

As MacRumors spotted this week, Apple has silently rolled out an update for the new firmware version of its MagSafe charger. The Cupertino tech giant has first revealed it in 2020, just in time for the release of iPhone 12 handsets.

So far, the tech publication notes that this is the third firmware update that has been available so far.

Of course, Apple did not provide official release notes for this firmware update. The company used to do that and no one knows why it's happening.

Possibly, Apple has launched it to get rid of potential bugs in the devices or there's a minor issue when using the MagSafe charger.

As of writing, there's no particular explanation why Apple releases a firmware update for this wireless charging feature. The only thing that we know so far is you need to connect it to your iPhone or AirPods to start the update.

How to Update Your MagSafe Charger to the Latest Firmware Version

As mentioned before, there's no specific way to update your MagSafe charger's firmware. iMore says that it's more about luck if you're considering manually updating to the latest version.

Although Apple has not yet disclosed any information about the latest firmware update, it might be because it's still processing the alterations for the newly-launched AirPods Pro 2 and iPhone 14.

In other news, EU Directives have implemented a law about the use of USB-C-type charging ports for all gadgets by 2024, per Tech Times. The standard will cover all European marketplaces in the world.

Regardless of the manufacturer even if it's Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, or any brand, the charging port should be compatible with the USB Type-C only. This applies to smartphones, cameras, and tablets in the European region.

Aside from that, even mechanical keyboards, headphones, and other rechargeable accessories are expected to adopt USB-C charging capability.

Two years after 2024, European lawmakers will require laptops to adopt the same implementation in the continent.

According to the law, the use of USB-C ports will promote e-waste reduction. It will also give every buyer a chance to promote product sustainability by becoming "environmentally" aware of its impact.
