Urban air mobility (UAM) business AeroHT, owned by XPeng, has publicly taken off, flown, and successfully landed its fifth-generation X2 "flying car" at a demonstration in Dubai, as reported first by electrek.

The business also provided an update on its sixth-generation flying car, an actual vehicle with wheels that can drive, take off, and fly.

AeroHT has completed more than 15,000 safely manned flights since its founding in 2013 with the aim of fusing automotive and aerospace technology to create secure, domestic electric flying vehicles at scale.

The T1 in 2019 and the X1 in 2020 were previous eVTOL prototypes. AeroHT refers to the X2, the company's fifth-generation "flying car," even though it lacks wheels since it has a lot in common with the P7 sedan from XPeng Motors in terms of design.

Aerial video of the X2 being tested in harsh conditions and at great heights had already been posted by XPeng AeroHT, but it was only conducted in China.

XPeng AeroHT has demonstrated its fifth-generation flying car's capabilities in public in Dubai as it advances toward producing its sixth-generation model, an actual flying car introduced last October.

But now, the public can watch the unedited video of the eVTOL's takeoff, flight, and landing for the first time!

First Public Flight

After the live demonstration in Dubai, XPeng AeroHT released a thorough press release detailing the occasion, the business's development, and its future.

The Dubai International Chamber of Commerce, which was heavily involved in the entire process and provided consulting to XPeng AeroHT, supported this first public flight, which was attended by more than 150 individuals.

This week, the X2 flying car is on display at Gitex Global, one of the biggest technology shows ever held in the Dubai World Trade Center.

The XPeng X2 was relocated off-site to Skydive Dubai, where it successfully finished the specific operations risk evaluations stipulated with the DCAA. As a result, it was permitted to conduct its first public flight outside of China.

"XPENG X2's public display in Dubai represents a significant milestone for XPENG AEROHT and the international achievement of flying cars," Brian Gu, Vice Chairman and President of XPENG, said in a press release statement.

"Dubai is a world-renowned 'City of Innovation', which is the reason we decided to hold the X2 first public flight event here. Today's flight is a major step in XPENG's exploration of future mobility."

In a teaser video posted from Dubai, XPeng AeroHT promises to reveal important R&D advancements in the configuration, exterior design, and air driving technique for this flying automobile.

This year's 1024 Tech Day on October 24 will make such details available. There will be more specifics revealed later this month, as per electrek.
