Razer, a multinational technology company, is finally releasing its much-anticipated Android handheld, the Edge. The company announced it during RazorCon 2022 on Sunday, Oct. 16.

Based on The Verge's report, it will initially be available in January as a Wi-Fi-only edition for $399.99, followed by a 5G Verizon variant with support for UWB after a few weeks. The price will be the same as the Wi-Fi-only model.

It will function with the sub-6GHz and ultra-wideband networks that the service provider offers. The Razer Edge may be reserved for $5, similar to Steam's Deck reservation system.

Play Thousands of Online Games With Just One Handheld Device

It is designed to be a fantastic piece of hardware for playing games streamed from the cloud using services like Nvidia GeForce Now or Xbox Cloud Gaming. When it comes to streaming PC games locally with the help of the Steam Link software, Razer claims that the Edge is capable of supporting up to 144 frames per second (FPS).

The Edge is a removable 6.8-inch tablet that runs on Android 12 and is powered by Qualcomm's G3X Gen 1 chipset. Thus, unlike the concept that was shown off a few months ago (like Logitech's G Cloud Gaming Handheld), the actual product is not an all-in-one handheld device but rather a tablet that can be detached from its controller.

This particular controller is a Kishi V2 Pro, an upgraded model with haptics and a 3.5mm headphone port in addition to the standard features. This gamepad will not be sold alone in the meantime; instead, it will only be sold in conjunction with the Edge.

The Edge Stands Out, Thanks to its Specs

The tablet component stands out due to its specifications, particularly its blazing-fast 144Hz refresh rate on its 6.8-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen with a 2,400 x 1,080-pixel resolution. Therefore, it shows a full high-definition and pixel-by-pixel display for a brighter color and clearer animation while consuming less power than other LED devices.

In addition to the G3X Gen 1 processor, which Qualcomm calls a "Gaming Platform," there is also 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 GB of storage, both of which should contribute to the device's overall speed.

It is compatible with some of the quickest routers on the market, such as Google's Nest Wi-Fi Pro, Eero's Pro 6E, and others, thanks to its Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E connection features.

Bluetooth 5.2 may be used to connect headphones, while Wi-Fi 6E connectivity allows internet access.

It Has a Front-Facing Camera For Streaming

Because the Edge includes a camera that faces forward, you may use it to broadcast your gameplay on Twitch or join a Zoom call while using it.

Razer had previously announced that the Edge would be equipped with a battery that has a capacity of 5,000 mAh. This means that if you just use it for cloud game streaming, the battery should last for quite some time.
