As per XDA, Google will release its first OTA update for the Pixel Watch this week. This new update will likely offer bug fixes and improvements to Google's Wear OS wearable, as well as December 2022 Android security upgrades.

What We Know

Instead of adding new features, Google is adding four enhancement patches to Calls, Watch Face, Settings, and Fitbit Exercise. Specifically, Google will implement fixes and improvements for hands-free profile calling and add battery-saving features to enable or disable single-tap support.

The update will also include a fix for an issue in which watch face complications were not always displaying the correct data and another fix for an issue in which the exercise layout was sometimes cut off.

Based on a report from 9to5Google, this update should be available as an on-device OTA through the Settings app's System > System Updates. After the device was introduced in October, there was a day-one update that updated it to the RWD9.220429.053.G1 security patch for July 1, 2022. (Wi-Fi).

It is also worth noting that Google just released an update to the Pixel Watch companion app back in November (and there is another one today: 1.0.5.491529637).

The "Global" Google Pixel Watch will receive RWD9.220429.070 as an update, while users in Japan and Taiwan will receive RWD9.220429.070.J1. Many are on the Dec. 5 security patch level after updating.

The watch now has a security patch level of Dec. 5, thanks to the OTA update. If you haven't already received it, Google says the update should roll out over the coming weeks to all supported Pixel Watch models running Wear OS 3.5.

By going to the Settings app on your watch and selecting the System menu, you can manually check for it. Make sure your Pixel Watch is powered on and connected to Wi-Fi before installing the update.

What's Coming

The Pixel Watch has made public new tiles for sunrise/sunset, favorite contacts, and an updated Google Keep app. This is even if the OTA update has yet to add notable features. Google also reaffirmed today that fall detection will be available in 2023. More thorough notes feed will be added to the Google Keep app later this month.

Google has already updated the Pixel Watch's companion app, but the Watch will receive a real firmware upgrade today. In addition, Google released a new Fitbit Sleep Profile that syncs with the wristwatch to give users more sleep-tracking data and advice on how to sleep better.

In other news, GSMArena reports that the December Pixel Feature Drop includes free VPN by Google One for Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro owners. The VPN is "designed to help ensure your network traffic cannot be tied to your identity," including Google.
