In this photo illustration an old age pensioner keeps warm with the aid of an electric heater on November 6, 2008, in Conwy, Wales. With the recent high rise in fuel and energy bills many senior citizens are facing a cold winter. The UK's National pensioner Convention has called for a higher basic state pension for the over 60's.

Officials confirmed this alarming detail at a Welsh health board.

They explained that more and more old people are experiencing hypothermia because they are afraid to turn on their heaters.

This is because they are afraid of the cost when their heating is on.

The Aneurin Bevan University Health Board stated that a combination of the cold weather and the cost of living crisis is the reason behind the worsening hypothermia of elderlies.

Health researchers explained that when the human body's temperature drops below 35 degrees Celsius, that's the time when hypothermia happens.

An Aneurin Bevan University Health Board spokesperson confirmed that elderly individuals with hypothermia are increasing.

"This is sadly due to the extreme freezing cold temperatures and the cost of living crisis with people afraid of the cost of putting their heating on," explained that official.
