Tesla Model S and X Are Now Back to Round Steering Wheels

As per a recent report by Inside EVs, the Tesla website now offers two steering options for the Model S and the Model X. By default, customers could get their hands on these EVs with a round steering wheel.

However, they could also choose to be a bit less boring, and opt for the Yoke Steering wheel.

If you want to get the race car vibes, you would have to manually select it on the website of the EV maker. After all, the giant firm is offering it free of charge.

Plaid Now Offers Yoke Steering Optional

The performance Plaid models of Tesla debuted with only a Yoke option. So given that, some might assume that it would remain the same.

However, in 2023, that is about to change. The Plaid variant now comes in round steering as well, while the race car type design is only optional.

Given that, Plaid customers now have two steering wheel options this time around, depending on what they prefer. It looks like Tesla has given in to the requests of its fans, albeit quietly adding the new option.

Elon Musk and Yoke Steering

It is worth noting that the Tesla Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Musk, previously resisted the comeback of the round steering.

According to a news story by Gizmodo, the big boss of the EV maker previously declined requests from customers to at least offer an option for a round steering wheel. Instead, the billionaire entrepreneur insisted that the yoke design is "way better."

A Twitter user in July 2021 asked the Tesla boss if there is "any chance of a normal steering wheel option?" The ultra-rich billionaire responded with a straightforward answer, saying "No."

Inside EVs reports that Tesla users complained about the yoke design when it first came out. But eventually, some of these folks just got used to it.

But other EV owners loved it. They find it unique. Not to mention it evokes some race car vibes.

This time, customers could now choose which design suits them, whether its the traditional look or the race car-like version.
