Apple's top-tier smartphone release, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, loses its top spot in the latest test regarding download speeds on mobile devices. It now fell to third place, next to two Android smartphones that overtook the Cupertino technology after taking first place in Q3 2023. This new test is from Ookla's latest report, also part of its fastest internet service providers test.

It is yet unknown if this has something to do with Apple's software which botched its smartphone performance speeds, or only a matter of area coverage of people's internet connections.

The latest Speedtest Global Index from Ookla, particularly with its United States Median Speeds report for Q4 2022, revealed that in the smartphone industry, Apple fell inferior to Android phones.

The report centers on three categories, namely median Download, Upload, and Latency speeds. The iPhone 14 Pro Max took the top spot in Q3 2022, and it is during its release period, the same as the Google Pixel 7 series.

However, that changed in Q4 2022, when the iPhone 14 Pro Max fell to the third spot, next to the new topnotcher, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, and the Google Pixel 7 Pro in the second spot.

Here are the speed results:

  • Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max - 15.39 Mbps

Latency

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 - 55 ms
  • Google Pixel 7 Pro - 50 ms
  • Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max - 54 ms

According to 9to5Mac, it is possible that users have spread to slower coverage areas when the test took place, and these are iPhone 14 Pro Max owners who went to rural or country locations.

Moreover, the report also claims that it may be due to iPhone 14 Pro Max owners first using their devices in the city, with a stronger connection, and settled later on in Q4.

iPhone vs. Android Smartphones and their Rivalry

The longstanding debate about which is the better smartphone device and operating system has put companies like Apple, Google, Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, OPPO, and more at a standstill.

In the present, the world still has mixed feelings regarding it, and one of the main reasons is focusing on operating system support, which Android is inferior to Apple, says a statistics report

When people were directly asked which smartphone makes them feel safer, particularly with their data and information being on a device, the public says it is the iOS. According to a study, 49 percent of people transferring from Google's Android to Apple's iOS because of safety concerns, and Cupertino's system is more secure.

However, it all boils down to people's preferences, as there could be fans influencing more of these studies, instead of getting legitimate answers from the public.

The change in smartphone performance regarding download, upload, and latency speeds is a massive gauge as well, and it tells a lot regarding a device's capabilities in this present time.
