Sony appears to be getting ready to introduce a completely new console - the PlayStation 5 Pro.  The "Pro" model will presumably have better console performance and, therefore, a new chip from AMD.

Sony has Yet to Confirm the Existence of the Upcoming PS5 Pro

The primary innovation of this upcoming home console is said to be a liquid cooling in addition to improved performance, according to the story by Giz China. This comes as the global chip shortage appears to have ended.

This will likely offer better heat management and could lead to a design change. The company has yet to confirm the existence of the PS5 Pro, but there is an anonymous source pointing to a release date of April 2023.

A Source Shares a Link to a French Website that Reveals Details of a Potential PS5 Pro

Abhishek Yadav, a source knowledgeable about the potential upcoming plan for the new console, released the information. The information was also revealed on a french website called Phoneandroid.

The PS5 Pro Could Launch at a Time When the Chip Shortage has Slowly Cooled Down

This would mean it is being released roughly 2.5 years after the current model, suggesting that there may be enough time between the two launches to ensure that Sony can stock up their inventory of the PS5 Pro. Furthermore, to avoid direct competition between the two versions, it is likely the Pro model will have a significantly higher price tag than the standard PS5.

The chip shortage appears to have ended, meaning it should now be easier to get hold of a PS5 unit. However, due to Sony's current lack of plan for an event (such as a State-Of-Play), we will have to wait for more information on the exact specs, pricing, and availability of the PS5 Pro.

How the Global Chip Shortage Greatly Affected the Supply of the PS5 in 2021

Until then, extreme caution must be taken when evaluating this information as it is still entirely possible that the company could change their plans at the last minute. Fans will have to wait and see the final plans for Sony's potential Pro model.

The global chip shortage of 2021 has extremely affected the current PlayStation 5 (PS5) stock, explained in an article by The Verge. Before the shortage, the PS5 was already experiencing high demand and low stock availability worldwide.

The Global Chip Shortage Affected Other Companies Aside from Sony

The chip shortage has caused PlayStation's production and delivery of consoles to fall behind even further. The chip shortage, caused by increasing demand for consumer electronics and a global pandemic, has drastically decreased the number of chips and processors available to manufacturers.

This shortage has impacted the availability of Intel and AMD processors and other parts such as Graphical Processing Units, RAM, and storage cards. As a result, console manufacturers, including Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft, have faced a critical shortage of chips and components needed to build their consoles.
