Steam Deck, just like other gaming consoles, is moddable. This means that you can change its parts and add the accessories you like to this handheld PC.

One of the most noticeable issues for consoles is overheating. Although there's a built-in fan inside the gadget, it's not enough to cool the interior part of the machine.

Interestingly, there's a good mod you can try to your Steam Deck to make it run cooler than usual. This particular casing for the heatsink backplate will solve your problems of overheating.

According to Sean Hollister of The Verge, the JSAUX PC0106 Transparent Back Plate for Steam Deck might sound absurd at first because of how cheap it was.

For just $30, he got this mod that will transform the Steam Deck's heatsink into an aluminum build unit.

At first, he said that he was skeptical about this transparent backplate, but he later discovered that it's an easy mod to accomplish.

Sean claimed that he could not see any difference in using this heatsink backplate mod to the electromagnetic interference shield of the console.

He ran some tests to see the CPU and GPU performance of the Steam Deck when running a game. He discovered that his console hit four degrees Celsius cooler when he played "Shadow of the Tomb Raider."

Many of us are annoyed about the noisy fan spinning inside the gaming console. That's not different for those who have Steam Deck and think cooling fans should be quieter.

Surprisingly, Sean disclosed that the new passive cooling for the console had been working when he installed the JSAUX backplate. He heard less spinning when he started to use it.

To be specific, he witnessed how it hit 500, 600, or 900 RPM (rotations per minute) slower than its usual record.

For instance, he concluded that the fan reached 5674 RPM when he attached the cooling plate even while downloading a game of more than 30 GB to the internal SSD. If the heatsink backplate were absent, it would have reached 6475 RPM.

Although the backplate becomes hot when you play, Sean says it won't be a big deal. It's still not enough to torch your finger when you touch it for a long time.

If you want to purchase the transparent backplate for Steam Deck, visit JSAUX for more information. You can also check Amazon for potential stocks of this accessory.

JSAUX will roll out more versions of this heatsink backplate soon in two colors: green and atomic purple. This might be its way to throw some Nintendo-inspired vibes to Valve's handheld console.
