Sony is gearing up to launch their second-generation PlayStation VR headset later this month. The new headset, PSVR2, is scheduled to be released on February 22nd and will also herald the restocking of the popular PlayStation 5.

Preparing for the PSVR2: What to Expect From Sony's Next-Generation Virtual Reality Headset

According to the story by Giz China, with Sony's second-generation virtual reality headset launch, the PSVR2, just around the corner, PlayStation fans worldwide are preparing for an upgrade. Now it's been two years since the launch of the PS5, and we are still feeling the effects of the low stock.

Fortunately, Sony is looking to ease this problem by restocking the console in some regions this month. However, even as PlayStation fans prepare to purchase the console, some may be looking to purchase the next-generation VR headset, the PSVR2.

Implications of the Low Demand for the VR Headset

Not only is the headset more expensive than the standard PS5, but the demand is still low, with Sony reducing the production target for the first quarter to 1 million units, according to a report from Bloomberg. This low demand could be attributed to a few factors; the lack of sufficient VR games and the expensive price tag.

The PSVR2 headset will cost its customers $550 / €600 / £530 / ¥75,000 and will come with two controllers. To entice customers to purchase the headset, Sony has added 13 more VR-supported games to the total of 30 currently available.

Pre-Order the PlayStation VR2 Headset and Accessories Now

Sony has been doing its best to increase its VR game library with 13 more supported games. Moreover, if buyers plan to pre-order the headset for themselves, they can do so via the PlayStation website or selected retail shops.

The headset will also come with two controllers and the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle. Overall, with the pre-order for the PSVR2 having started back in November and the headset's launch date of February 22, Sony could increase its VR demand further by offering potential customer discounts or, better yet, bundling the VR headset with the PlayStation 5.

Raising Demand for Sony's PSVR2 Headset Through Promotion and Restocking of PS5

According to a report from Bloomberg, Sony has already reduced its production target for the first quarter of the headset to one million units, which is a far cry from the numbers they had been expecting.

The high cost of the headset and the lack of available games may be to blame for the lack of demand. However, Sony is hoping that the restocking of the PS5 and the promise of more games to come in the future will entice more customers to purchase the PSVR2 headset.

With Sony's "Live From PS5" ad campaign depicting well-known gaming characters coming to life, fans may soon be as excited about the VR headset as they are about the console.
