WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature. It should allow users to transcribe audio messages into text straight from the messaging app.

It may not take long before WhatsApp users can start reading text transcriptions of audio messages on their phones.

WhatsApp Transcribe Audio Message Feature

As per a recent story by WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned messaging service looks to develop a new transcribing feature to transform audio messages into text.

In this day and age, sending audio messages has been a convenient option to communicate with friends, family members, and co-workers. For some users, doing so is way faster and easier than typing text messages.

Sending an audio message is a more convenient option for some. However, the receiver of these messages would have to listen to them rather than read the text.

Other folks prefer receiving text messages as they can easily read them. So only some people are fans of this audio messaging trend these days.

Thankfully, WhatsApp is reportedly gearing up to release a new feature that converts voice messages into text.

So soon enough, its users are likely getting two options. Depending on their preference, they could opt to listen to it or turn it into text.

Voice Transcribe Feature In Development Since 2021

WABetaInfo notes in its report that the messaging service of the Facebook parent has been working on the voice message transcribing feature since late 2021.

Despite its early development, Meta abandoned the project along the way. It is common for features still in the works to get scrapped as developers are working on it.

However, the giant messaging platform revived the audio message transcribe feature.

Now Available on WhatsApp Beta for Apple iPhone Users

The transcribing feature saw the light of day in the latest beta version of WhatsApp on iOS, allowing Apple iPhone users to try it themselves.

According to a report by 9to5 Mac, WhatsApp for iPhone beta now offers the new feature, which is still under development. It lets users try out a new function that turns voice messages into text.

The tech news outfit notes that the transcription of these messages remains to be stored in the user's device. Given that, the messaging service assures its users that the text version of their audio messages would not end up in the servers of Meta or the iPhone maker.

It is worth noting that such a transcribing feature is familiar to Telegram users. They could also use it on videos.

But the catch is that it is only available to Premium paying subscribers. On the other hand, WhatsApp reportedly plans to offer it free of charge.
