A North Carolina couple was shocked to find that their automobile had been taken while they were sleeping. They were lucky when their Apple AirTag alerted them to the position of their vehicle, and they tracked it down in no time.

Recovering Stolen Vehicle

As reported by Fox News, two criminals approached the driveway of Leslie and Antar Muhammad's home discreetly and made off with Leslie's Toyota Camry, as seen on their home's doorbell camera.

Antar Muhammad confronted her wife, saying her car was no longer in the driveway. Lucky for them, they claim to have installed Apple AirTags in their two vehicles, along with their mobile devices, wallets, and suitcases.

In the aftermath of their automobile theft, the couple used their iPhones to track down the vehicle's last known location.

He made a remark about the app's GPS system. He said they were able to identify exactly where the car was and almost accurately picked out the parking area it was in.

Local officials responded within minutes, and the pair led them to their missing Toyota Camry. Cary police said that they found the stolen car and detained three minors just before 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4.

Leslie told WRAL News that Durham police were also delighted with the fact that the couple could pinpoint the site so quickly and for alerting the authorities right away.

The couple estimates that from the time they noticed the vehicle was missing until everything was resolved, only around two and a half hours passed.

"One hundred dollars for a pack of 4 - it's one of the greatest security systems you can have. As soon as we get a new vehicle or new item - backpack or purse or luggage - I open one up and put one in just for safety measures," Antar told WRAL News.

"I think it's important for people to be aware of what's out there to support them when it comes to their own personal safety and your items - your home, your cars. If there's an easy, especially low-budget way, to keep your home and family secure, that's the best way to do it," Leslie remarked during the interview.

Improper Use

In recent months, thieves have been utilizing Apple's AirTags to follow people and breach their privacy, which has caused a lot of backlash against the product.

Recently, a lady in Texas got a message that an AirTag was accompanying her travel. She instantly went to the police station, where officers discovered an AirTag device attached to her vehicle.

In January, Apple's AirTag was found stowed away under the hood of a marked New York Police Department cruiser in Queens.

Apple has released security features to protect users against stalkers and other invasions of privacy. If an unidentified AirTag is discovered to be moving with someone else, that individual will now get a message reading "AirTag Found Moving With You" on their phone.
