The Tesla app started crashing out of nowhere across Europe, leaving electric vehicle (EV) owners worried that they might end up being locked out of their cars.

Drivers of the Elon Musk-owned automaker report that the app showed an error message, which prevents them from using its services, including opening the doors of the EVs.

Tesla App Crashes in Europe

According to a report by Lad Bible, the Tesla app offers EV owners of the Musk-led carmaker various options like checking the battery level on their cars. It also provides essential features like unlocking the doors of their vehicles.

And as such, the app's failure significantly affects the giant automaker's owners. The time that these drivers are dreading has arrived in time for Valentine's Day.

On February 14, an error message appeared on the app of Tesla drivers in Europe. When they attempt to open it, they are welcomed with a "503 Server Maintenance" notice rather than the handy options that it provides.

Affected owners were quick to report the downtime and outage on social media, including Twitter, which the big boss of Tesla now owns, sitting as the "Chief Twit."

As per a report by Daily Mail UK, some drivers report that the app outage lasted for roughly six hours.

Drivers Fear Not Opening Car During Outage

Due to the widespread outage in Europe, some drivers got easily frustrated, fearing that they might have difficulty unlocking their vehicles due to the unexpected Tesla app downtime.

It is worth noting that Tesla lets its users unlock their EVs without any keys. And instead, they can use their smartphones to get in their vehicles.

Although the keyless option is convenient in most cases, everything changes during sudden outages such as this.

Others worried they might not be back from work in time for Heart's Day. What a time to experience a widespread Tesla app outage.

Despite all the worry and frustration, they could still open their vehicles even if the app is experiencing hours-long of downtime.

Rather than relying on the app, the Bluetooth connectivity of their iPhones and Android phones still works. Thus, Lad Bible notes that drivers unlock their doors effortlessly.

Besides the unlocking feature, which works with Bluetooth alone, other essential options were inaccessible.

What frustrates the drivers the most is their inability to access the Powerwall battery system. So they could not check if they need to top up the battery of their EV using their phones.
