Artificial intelligence technology has grown extremely fast in popularity, and aside from ChatGPT, other tools focus on aspects like images and sound. Recently, Young Guru expressed his concerns regarding a fake Kendrick Lamar song found online.

The Rise in Popularity of Artificial Intelligence Tech Used to Mimic A Person's Voice

Vall-E, a popular tech that uses AI to mimic the voice of popular figures, has also started to gain traction with the rise of image-focused AI like Dall-E. As of press time, a fake Kendrick Lamar song shows the tool's capabilities to mimic voices.

The legendary engineer Young Guru shared an Instagram video showcasing how a person could create a Kendrick Lamar song from scratch using a voice filter. The video showed how a few toggles on the filter adjusted the voice to make it sound "exactly like K. Dot."

Young Guru Shared Potential Problems That Could Come with AI Voice Tech

According to HipHop DX, Young Guru shared the problems that could come with AI voice technology. His caption urged actions to be taken and laws to be implemented to help protect people from using this particular technology.

Young Guru shared how he has followed the development of AI for a few years and that he was at MIT, and students were starting to show him projects where they started feeding a computer every jazz record.

There are No Ways Users Can Copyright Their Own Voice

In an Instagram post, he continued to share how the AI could analyze and create music in different unique musician styles during that time. In the video's caption, he shared how he didn't think AI tech could go so far at its own pace.

Guru then expressed the problem of people not being capable of copyrighting their own voices. This creates a loophole where voice-altering technology can be used, where anyone can create anything in the voice of anyone.

Legal Aspects Are Only Limited to People Copyrighting a Song or a Speech, but No Voices

He said the legal aspects are limited to copyrighting a song or speech. However, legal protection does not cover the voice and cannot be copyrighted.

Young Guru shared that because of the lack of legal protection for voices, anyone can create a fake song or album in the voice of anyone they want. He then shared that there was also no protection against other AI tech like Deep Fake.

Kendrick Lamar Previously Used Deep Fake AI Tech in One Of His Music Videos

Kendrick Lamar himself used Deep Fake tech in one of his music videos called "Heart Part 5." The tech saw his face morphing into numerous celebrities like Kanye West, O.J. Simpson, and even the late Nipsey Hussle.

One of the evident uses of AI tech was seen in the rise of FN Meka in 2022, a virtual rapper that never existed. FN Meka was entirely created from artificial intelligence, from visuals and lyrics to the voice behind it.
