New School Safety App Allows You to Report Harmful Activities Anonymously! Here's How It Works

You can't deny that schools are not always safe for children. Many students who experience harmful activities prefer not to tell about the incidents because they could be picked on by other students.

With the arrival of the new LASAR app, students, parents, teachers, and community members can now report the negative activities they see within school premises.

LAUSD collaborated with Los Angeles School Police Department (LASPD), Parent and Community Engagement Unit, and Division of School Operations to create the new school safety app.

LASAR (Los Angeles Schools Anonymous Reporting) is available to anyone in LA.

The main LASAR app is used to report, anonymously, any type of concerns that may not need police response. The secondary LASAR application, which is strictly used to report an emergency, is only for school employees.

Once users report an incident, their complaints will be sent to the school police. After that, authorities will identify the location of the sender.

The new LASAR app was already showcased during a Board of Education meeting.

How LASAR App Works

Via the official LAUSD document, the new LASAR provides direct communication lines to the LASPD.

"Upon receiving the information, the LASPD Watch Commander will triage the reported incident and determine the necessary resource to dispatch," explained LAUSD.

The organization added that this will reduce the incident frequency by actively responding to behaviors that lead to avoidable acts of violence.

If you are in Los Angeles and haven't used the new LASAR app yet, here are its core features you can take advantage of:

  • Easy to use
  • Real-time incident reporting to LASPD
  • Geolocation detected by the application
  • Configurable incident types
  • Able to capture photo and/or video of the incident

Aside from being a reporting tool, the new LASAR app also acts as a parent portal, as well as a service management tool for enterprise help desk.
