It comes as no surprise just how important artificial intelligence has and will continue to become in its quest to dominate our daily lives and maybe even one day our dreams.

One such string upon the AI fold, coined generative AI, has sparked a multitude of debate on the ethical practices behind leveraging this technology in the face of human imagination and design ethos.

But outliers, like ChatGPT, prove just how far this tech is bound to go, especially when placed in the hands of valiant creators and businesses alike.

GrammarlyGO, a new generative AI-powered product by cloud-based typing assistant firm Grammarly, will utilize this very same technology to allow its consumers a breath of fresh air.

Grammarly bills the new product as a way for customers to save "time while maintaining their unique voice" through the power of a "high-quality, personalized writing" assistant.

Like Microsoft and Google before it, so too will Grammarly take hold of the ChatGPT craze, but its intentions seem more so fueled by the intent to innovate as well as seek to redefine how AI can help better our lives on a daily basis. Its GrammarlyGO product is a productivity amplifier, giving customers a resource when time is of the essence. Grammarly gives a more in-depth breakdown of all the many ways GrammarlyGO can be utilized, best surmised as follows:

  • Tone/Clarity & Length Rewrites: Completely redefine sentences in line with specific tones, like laid back versus professional-sounding text, while also adding or subtracting to the length of the content "at the click of a prompt."
  • Text Composition: Create text using a quick prompt to save time with drafts.
  • Email Replies: Helps craft context in email chains.
  • Ideate: Creates content concepts and outlines, coined "AI ideation partner."
  • Voice Personalization: Submit professional role and preferred tone for written personalization.
GrammarlyGO lets users pick how they want their content to sound.

Grammarly itself gives voice to several different creator types that could use GrammarlyGO to better streamline productivity and achieving goalsets, such as students and educators, developers, and professionals and businesses. On the tip of my mind is its potential for content creators, from TikTok makers to Twitch live streamers, who can potentially better tailor their content for viewers through Grammarly's product.

The firm's February 1st-dated blog, titled "Generative or Not, the Future of AI Lies in Augmented Intelligence," sheds more light on its recent product announcement. Grammarly specifically points to the "human potential" that AI can have, citing its usecase as not to "reduce personal autonomy" but strengthen it. Rahul Roy-Chowdhury, Grammarly's global head of product, explains it best:

"We believe technology should be built to solve real user problems, enhance understanding and productivity, and empower human connection and belonging. AI is successful when it augments humans - their intelligence, strengths, and desire to be understood. That's why we fundamentally think of our responsible approach to building with AI as augmented intelligence - anchoring on the idea that AI uses human, not 'artificial,' knowledge to enhance our capabilities and help us grow."

The communication assistant GrammarlyGO is slated to hit beta sometime in April 2023. The firm states that GO will be made available across its varied product bundles, including Free (in select markets), Premium, Business, Education (higher education), and Developers. Those interested can download Grammarly today for access once the beta debuts later this year.
