Nintendo has been a household name in the video game industry since they launched the cult classic NES console in the 1980s. Although their popularity in the west has always remained high, their success in Southeast Asia has been more recent. However, recent news has surfaced that Nintendo is pulling back on its operations in the area.

Impact of Nintendo's Store Closures in Southeast Asia

According to the story by Nintendo Life, the recent news of Nintendo's stores' closure in Southeast Asia is a wake-up call to many gaming fans as the company has seen tremendous growth and expansion in other parts of the world.

This news means that people in the region will no longer be able to enquire about official Nintendo products at physical stores. The closure of both Thailand stores means they no longer have a foothold in the region.

The Risk of Being Scammed with Limited Access to Nintendo Products

For those in Thailand, only access to Nintendo products is now limited to the online stores of Maxsoft and Jaymart, which are resellers of Nintendo's products. On the one hand, this is a positive as it allows them to purchase the same items without needing to travel to a physical store.

On the other, without being able to inspect the products and ask questions, fans are more at risk of being scammed and being left with a compromised product. It is also worth noting that the closing of these two stores also means that the joint venture with WeJoin has been left in limbo, with all repairs and services provided by the company now ceasing.

A Real Blow to Regional Gaming Fans: The Closure of Nintendo Stores in Southeast Asia

It's a real shame for customers who have grown to rely on Nintendo for repairs, with most local shops and technicians ill-equipped to handle the repair of Nintendo hardware. According to Nintendo Soup, the JD Central store reportedly opened in December 2021.

The news of Nintendo's official store closures in Southeast Asia, as also spotted on Gaming Latest, is a real blow to regional gaming fans. It means that most now have limited access to official Nintendo products and services, as they can no longer rely on either of the stores.

The End of a Decade of Success and Growth in Southeast Asia for Nintendo

This could also hurt the company's performance in the region in the future, as people may be pushed away to buying pirated titles and hardware rather than paying for official products.

Nintendo's decision to reduce its business operations in Southeast Asia is a worrying sign. Although their official products will still be available online, the lack of physical stores leaves many in the region with limited options. Despite this, there is still hope that Nintendo can continue to grow, expand and bring joy to gamers in Southeast Asia.

With the closure of Nintendo's stores in Southeast Asia, a decade of success and growth in the region seems to be coming to an end. It remains to be seen what, if any, kind of presence Nintendo will continue to have in the region going forward.
