Volkswagen has been teasing to release of its affordable electric vehicle for years. Finally, the company has now revealed a new ID.2all concept that shows a production compact priced below $26,000, which is more affordable than the second-generation ID.3.

Volkswagen ID.2all

As Volkswagen continues the success of its compact cars in the age of electric mobility, the company unveiled the first glimpse of an all-electric VW that costs less than $26,000. 

Based on the company's released statement, the production version will be based on the MEB Entry Platform and will be launched along with ten new electric vehicles by 2026. This is part of the ID.LIFE concept that one of the company's efforts to launch an affordable electric vehicle based on the new platform designed for smaller car concepts. 

Chief Executive Officer Thomas Schafer stated, "We are transforming the company rapidly and fundamentally - with the clear objective of making Volkswagen a genuine Love Brand. The ID. 2all shows where we want to take the brand. We are implementing the transformation at pace to bring electric mobility to the masses."

The ID.2all will be the first Volkswagen vehicle with front-wheel drive based on it, as the company exploits the great flexibility offered through its MEB platform. This will set new standards in terms of mobility, technology, and every-life usability.

Powered by the improved MEB platform, the vehicle will be equipped with a powerful electric drive motor with an output of 166kW/226 PS and will calculate a WLTP range of up to 450 kilometers. In less than 20 minutes, the EV can be charged to 80%. 

VW ID.2all Design

Looking at its exterior design, Volkswagen takes inspiration from its classics like the Beetle and Golf that bring a new design language from the company. ID.2all brings a clear and powerful stance with strong fender flares that cover a wide track, long wheelbase, and short overhangs with a cleaned-up front head.

Former designer of Bentley and Audi Andreas Mindt was brought back by the company to become the head of design for Volkswagen Passenger Cars. He based the ID.2all concept on three pillars of the company, which are stability, likeability, and enthusiasm.

For its interior design, the vehicle features the C-pillar design as one of its most prominent elements, as per Electrek. Because of this, ID.2all's interior presents a spacious, high-quality appearance.

Engadget reported that the vehicle's production should debut in Europe in 2025, with a goal of starting it at less than $26,000. This effort will help the brand to surpass its competitors in the market with its rival offerings like Renault Zoe. Volkswagen plans to release at least one in every five vehicles sold globally to be electric by 2025.
