MENLO PARK, CALIFORNIA - FEBRUARY 02: A security guard stands next to a sign at Meta headquarters on February 02, 2023 in Menlo Park, California. Facebook's parent company Meta reported better-than-expected fourth quarter earnings with $32.17 billion in revenue. The company's stock surged 23 percent for its best trading day in close to a decade.

Leaving Meta

Vice President of Business Messaging and Executive Head of Advertisement and Business Products Dan Levy is departing from Meta to focus on his family after losing his child to leukemia. According to an internal announcement seen by Reuters, Levy stated that this decision to leave the company lasted for over two years.

A spokesperson from Meta confirmed Levy's departure from the company this coming May and stated that the company's division of business messaging will remain to have a strategic priority and area of investment for Meta this year.

Levy joined the company 14 years ago and was assigned to head the business messaging division for growth potential in 2018.

Last year, this position was replaced by John Hegeman as Levy became the overall Executive Head of Advertisement and Business Products. Similar to Levy, Hegeman is also a long-time executive of the company.

Levy is leaving the company during a difficult season as Meta announced several setbacks. Just last week, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram announced that it will reduce its workforce by 13%, affecting around 10,000 employees.

As per Zuckerberg, the layoffs will start with the recruitment team this week ad continues reorganizing the company's tech and business units in either April or May.

This is the second wave of job cuts that the company underwent over the past few months. In November, Meta let go of 11,000 workers, or roughly 13% of its workforce, for the previous layoffs.

Leading the Business Products Division

During his term as the VP of this division, his team oversaw the company's adaptation to Apple's iOS privacy changes last 2021, which led to Meta's access being cut by a costly disruption to the valuable user data around. This was built as the company aims to target the advertising business.

Due to this, Meta planned to build in-app commerce features to make up for the loss, along with the use of artificial intelligence to enhance ad targeting procession.

Through this, executives were able to see the potential of business messaging as another part of the solution. Meta could now monetize the acquired messaging platform WhatsApp to produce significant revenue.

Aside from Business Messaging and Advertising and Business Products, Levy also worked in Meta in different positions.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he also became the Vice President for Small Business where he took care of advertising sales and services of small businesses that used Facebook. He was also the Director for Payments, Risk, and Finance where he led finance teams for different divisions.
