A new Chinese kissing machine is raising eyebrows. This weird lockdown-inspired device is being criticized by many people. But, there are also some individuals curious to try it.

The new kissing machine is called MUA; its name is based on the sound people usually make when they blow a kiss to their partners.

It was developed by former Beijing Film Academy student, Zhao Jianbo; who is also the founder of the Chinese startup Siweifushe.

"I was in a relationship back then, but I couldn't meet my girlfriend due to lockdowns," explained that inventor. Because of this, he decided to focus his graduate project on the lack of physical intimacy in video calls.

After graduating, he founded the Siweifushe Chinese startup. The first product he released is MUA, which was launched on Jan. 22.

The MUA kissing machine costs 260 yuan ($38). However, it isn't available on Amazon and other global e-commerce platforms yet.

Despite being exclusive to China, Jianbo was able to sell over 3,000 MUA devices. He also claimed that they are receiving more than 20,000 orders for their kissing gadget.

How MUA Kissing Gadget Works

CNN Business reported that the MUA kissing devices require users to download a mobile app. After that, they need to plug their MUA kissing device into their smartphone.

Once the lockdown-inspired gadget is connected to your mobile device, you can start a video call with your partner.

During the video call, you can transmit replicas of your kisses to your partner by kissing the MUA gadget. Of course, your girlfriend or boyfriend also needs to have their own MUA to make it happen.

As of writing, many Chinese tech experts believe that the MUA kissing machine will improve long-distance relationships.

People Criticize MUA

Many Chinese residents shared their excitement, while others wanted to try the new Chinese kissing machine out of curiosity. Since this device is quite weird, numerous people also criticized it.

One of the complaints is that the device doesn't provide the experience of a real kiss because it lacks an artificial tongue. Consumers who already tried the MUA device likened the kissing machine to a warm pacifier.

Aside from its inefficiency to deliver a realistic kissing experience, other people said that the MUA device could be used for erotic/NSFW content.
