Sony recently revealed that PlayStation VR2 is now available at local retailers and the PlayStation Direct online store. This announcement comes in light of the disappointing sales figures of the PS VR2, with estimates that it had sold fewer than 300,000 units during its initial five weeks of release.

Hiroki Totoki's Positive Outlook on PlayStation VR2 Success

According to the story by Video Game Chronicle, despite the low sales of the device so far, Sony's CFO Hiroki Totoki was still very optimistic about the console's future performance. He stated that with the release of the device on the PS5, the company had a "good chance to exceed" their original 5 million units target.

PlayStation VR2, Sony's latest virtual reality headset, will be available in retail stores everywhere, Sony has confirmed. Previously, the PlayStation VR2 was only accessible for purchase through the PlayStation Direct store, but it can now be found at various retailers, selling it for prices ranging from $549.99 to £529.99.

The increased accessibility of the PlayStation VR2 marks the launching point for what Sony's Chief Financial Officer, Hiroki Totoki, hopes will be a smooth, successful journey into the virtual reality market.

Sony's Pre-Order Sales with PlayStation VR2 Below Expectations

Totoki has recently expressed his confidence in the PlayStation VR2's future performance, claiming that in May of last year, the sales of the total PlayStation Virtual Reality headsets had surpassed 5 million units and had a good chance to exceed this amount.

Totoki commented on the growth that virtual reality is expected to provide to the media and entertainment industry, linking his confidence in the future success of the PlayStation VR2 to these predictions.

Despite these hopes, Sony's pre-order sales were reported to have been below expectations, leading to reports that the company had halved headset production in the current quarter.

A More Accessible Option: The PlayStation VR2 is Now Available for Purchase in Stores

Sony has since clarified that it had not "cut PlayStation VR2 production numbers." Instead, she appears to have bolstered the potential success of the device by providing a more diverse platform for its purchase.

The PlayStation VR2 is now available for purchase in stores, giving customers a more accessible way to experience the world of virtual reality. With various prices and availability, the PlayStation VR2 offers the perfect touch to individuals' media entertainment experience.

Question of Sony's Pre-Order Numbers Spark Sales Forecast Controversy

Sources reported by Bloomberg claimed that shipment forecasts had been cut from 2 million units to 1 million units for the quarter due to lackluster pre-order numbers. Sony issued a statement disputing the claims, but it remained to be seen just how many device units would be sold.

Now that consumers have the possibility to purchase the device at retail outlets, it will be interesting to observe the success of the PS VR2, especially in comparison to the 5 million units sold for the original device.

Regardless, it looks like Sony is hoping for the best, considering the large potential that the overall VR market is estimated to have to this decade.
