Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, recently spoke on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher" on Friday, April 28, where he discussed various controversial themes that have become associated with him in the past few years.

Musk Treading Carefully on Twitter Free Speech

Musk, who some say has become more conservative after buying Twitter last year, answered his critics by saying he sees himself as a "moderate," Insider tells us.

He pointed out that he has dedicated a lot of his life to creating sustainable energy through things like electric cars, batteries, and solar power.

Musk's use of Twitter also has become a hot topic, as he frequently claims to support "free speech" without limitations.

It is worth noting that the billion disagrees with Twitter's choice to ban former President Donald Trump's account after the Capitol riots in January 2021 (unbanning him after a landslide public poll) and has even stated that his desire to purchase the social media platform is largely motivated by his belief in protecting free speech.

Talking about Twitter as a political echo chamber, Maher expressed his reluctance to use the networking site, despite Musk's reputation as "the mayor of Tweettown." He said, "I feel like I'm walking on a roof with a blindfold. I could fall off any time."

In response, Musk said, "You have to say, well, what does canceled mean? Yes, people attack and criticize, but it doesn't mean you're canceled. It just means that people don't like what you're saying."

Elon Musk also expressed his concern regarding censorship on social media platform Twitter. Musk emphasized the importance of having a digital town square where a wide range of viewpoints can be said without fear of censorship.

In the interview, Musk stated that he had uncovered significant government-driven censorship on Twitter, which he believes to be a constitutional violation. He referenced his discovery of the "Twitter Files," which allegedly contained evidence of censorship by the social media giant.

Musk has constantly named himself a "free speech absolutist."

Talking About Mars and AI

Maher then expressed his confusion and lack of interest in Musk's idea of pushing the human population onto Mars. However, their conversation took a more interesting turn when they talked about AI.

Musk advocated for more regulation of AI, citing the potential risks it poses to the public. He argued that a regulatory body should oversee what companies are doing with AI to prevent them from taking dangerous shortcuts.

This is not the first time Musk has spoken out about the potential dangers of AI. He has long warned of its potential to surpass human intelligence and cause harm if not properly regulated.

Elon Musk and several other industry leaders and AI experts signed an open letter in late March calling for a temporary halt to the development of powerful AI systems.
