If you have already done professional or non-pro photoshoots, then you already know that using the correct lens for different shots really makes a difference.

Instead of going all through the camera lenses available, we will only check two lenses; prime and zoom camera lens.

To help you understand them, here are their differences.

Zoom lenses have wider focal lengths. For example, one zoom lens can have focal lengths between 24-105mm.

Meanwhile, prime lenses only have one set focal length. These include 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, etc. This means that the range of view that prime lenses can capture is fixed.

On the other hand, zoom lenses are more versatile as they can switch from 24mm up to 105mm.

Since prime lenses have higher image quality, as well as better image quality, and wider apertures, professional photographers (such as those in National Geographic) prefer using them.

But, some pro videographers and photogs go to zoom lenses because they can easily switch the lenses' view ranges.

Prime Vs. Zoom Lens: Which One To Choose?

Yes, the prime lens really does have the upper hand when it comes to image quality.

However, advanced editing tools that can enhance your captured images are already available, with most of them being for free.

Because of this, MakeUseOf suggested that the zoom lens is a better option for non-pro and professional photogs.

Here are some of the top reasons why you are better off taking pictures using zoom camera lenses:

Zoom lenses allow photographers to capture wide image genres, such as landscape, food photography, portraits, etc.

Zoom lenses will allow you to capture images faster. Unlike prime lenses, zoom lenses no longer need you to go to another shooting angle just to capture images.

If you have a zoom lens, then you will have more composition options. These are just some of the reasons why it is now preferred to use zoom lenses instead of prime models.

Here are other stories we wrote about cameras:

In 2021, MIT introduced a new camera lens that can focus light faster and more accurately without twisting. In 2019, nine Nikon lenses were unveiled for the company's Z-mount lens roadmap.
