In the modern era, one screen just doesn't cut it anymore. For the vast majority of PC users, a dual-screen setup is an absolute must. At least for me, I know my fluidity and workflow are best streamlined with two screens. Some are capable of surviving on wider options, like 21:9 ultrawide or even super-ultra-wide monitors, but these can be quite expensive and not always the best for gaming.

No question that having a secondary screen boosts your output and productivity, as proven by one survey that tracked over 1,000 participants, highlighting an average productivity increase of 42%. Not everyone, of course, will see such massive strides, but it's clear that having another monitor is crucial for avid and more streamlined workflows.

But the question of which monitor might be the best or better to use in a certain situation might be cause for strain and concern. It's not easy picking a monitor screen that casually slots into one's daily workflow, but it doesn't have to be either. Some monitors, especially those of 4K caliber and increased hz capacity, can reach well over $1,000.

Look no further than Samsung's 55" Odyssey Ark, which can be swiveled into a so-called "cockpit mode," or simply landscape, for essentially a vertical two-monitor setup. While quite an impressive platform, the Odyssey Ark also boasts a $2,000 price tag, setting it far apart from most of the populace's budget. Similar conventional monitors can be costly, but in actuality, you don't really need a secondary monitor that's massive in size.

Portable monitors have come quite a long way, and it's shown most tastefully in Uperfect's Unify S. Although it is a bit expensive, currently costing $600 ($700 at MSRP), the Unify S still proves worth the investment, leveraging a remarkable 15.6" 100%sRGB 4K display that can automatically rotate 360 degrees when necessary.

From gaming to average workflows, even on the go, the Unify S is one of the most brilliant displays I've ever laid eyes on, and it packs a lot of different features and uses cases that make it stand out not only from the rest of the bunch in its category but also even conventional PC monitors.

The Unify S, like most portable displays, is in the unique position of being, as the name suggests, highly portable. This lends the device an almost unlimited versatility that simply cannot be found in alternative options. Take your work with you anywhere, but do remember that this monitor will require power via USB-C. Any outlet, or even some power bricks, will work when on the go. I used a 10000mAh portable battery from Alongza, and it worked like a charm, so even without an internal battery, the Unify S proves remarkably versatile.

Though it might only be 60hz, that doesn't actually detract from the product, as it still looks incredible in function. It leverages a glossy IPS panel screen for an incredibly chic look even when powered off. The display also comes equipped with HDR and FreeSync support, including dual speakers and a 1000:1 contrast ratio. It also functions as a touch screen display, with 10 points multiple touch control gifting it yet another layer of versatility.

Productivity workflows, like video editing and even spreadsheets, certainly looked and operated fantastically, but I just couldn't find the 15-inch of screen real estate to be enough for me. Instead, the Unify S truly shines best of all while gaming. This is due largely to the fact that it is a 4K UHD screen, but also, the size definitely makes a difference. Desktop PC gaming looks incredible, but so too, do the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. It's like this screen was built entirely for gaming.

With both Mini HDMI and USB-C connection support, the Unify S can be used across most devices. When using USB-C, you can also leverage the on-screen touchscreen controls, which works best of all with select Samsung and Android devices. The user manual gives a long list of supported phones, which, as one might expect, excludes a large majority of iPhones and Apple devices.

I tried to use my iPhone with a digital AV adapter, and while it did mirror the on-screen display, it didn't allow me to use the touch screen. This was a bit frustrating, but I'm not too annoyed by it, as I'm not really a mobile game player, nor do I think this mobile screen support should be the sole reason behind this purchase. You can still use your iPhone's onboard touch screen to scroll where necessary, so it does still have its uses for those who use their mobile device a bit more than me.

Best of all for me, though, was Unify's Steam Deck support. I could completely customize the screen in all capacities when in desktop mode and could use the touch screen for added functionality. As already mentioned, gaming looked fantastic whether I was running Elden Ring or Pokemon FireRed.

While there isn't too much to expect in the sound department, I fear the Unify could have been used with a bit better sound quality, but it certainly packs a punch. All settings can easily be manually changed using the touchscreen along with the menu button found on the left of the stand. I'd like to also add that the stand used with this monitor, though it does make the screen far more prone to damage and scratches, does expedite any worries about its placement. I don't have to worry about balance, as the screen sits upright at practically any possible viewing angle without sway.

The packaging comes with all of the necessary cables, which include USB-C to USB-A, HDMI to mini-HDMI, and two USB-C to USB-C. It also has a power adapter and even a leather case to store the monitor, which is a nice touch. While I do think the price is a bit high, it's a worthy investment, especially given its 4K resolution.

Overall, I really enjoyed using the Unify S. It packs a load of variety, letting me use multiple screens at once, whether I am at home or on the go. While I do think the touch screen isn't as useful as it could be, especially with iPhone users, it does come in handy when leveraging the USB-C connection with an Android device.
