A new target has caught the attention of Jack Sweeney, the 20-year-old college student who gained notoriety after being banned from Twitter for tracking Elon Musk's private jet. This time, Sweeney is looking to track the aircraft of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, according to a report by AP.

Using the Twitter account @DeSantisJet, Sweeney recently posted his first tweet, which aims to track the movements of the official Florida jet of Governor DeSantis for state business.

Similar to his previous tracker for Musk's jet, Sweeney's DeSantis tracker relies on publicly available flight information mandated by aviation authorities.

Extending Tracking Capabilities

During an interview with The Associated Press, Sweeney revealed his plans to extend his tracking capabilities to include other private aircraft used by Governor DeSantis once he can identify them.

Similar to Sweeney's updated version of his Elon Musk tracker (@elonjet), the DeSantis Twitter tracker operates with a 24-hour delay in reporting flight movements.

This adjustment aligns with a rule modification implemented by Twitter shortly after suspending Sweeney's original Musk tracking account in December.

It is worth noting that the suspension occurred not long after Elon Musk acquired the social media platform for a staggering $44 billion. Eventually, Sweeney's Twitter account was reinstated.

By exclusively relying on publicly available data, Sweeney's tracker effectively circumvents a recently enacted Florida law, according to AP.

Governor DeSantis signed this law on May 11, which mandates state law enforcement agencies to keep the governor's travel records confidential.

Aside from tracking Elon Musk and Ron DeSantis, Sweeney, he also monitors the movements of various private jets used by politicians, technology moguls, and celebrities. This extensive list includes former President Donald Trump,  Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos as well as Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian.

In addition to Twitter, Sweeney's DeSantis tracker can be found on various social platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. He has also expanded his presence to smaller sites like Telegram, Mastodon, and Nostr.

Notably, his Musk tracker utilizes accounts on BlueSky, an emerging alternative to Twitter, and Truth, a social network founded by Donald Trump. However, it is only the Twitter-based trackers that has the 24-hour delay in reporting.

Person of Interest

According to Sweeney, Governor DeSantis has become an individual of interest, stating that "people want to know about him."

This is due to the fact that the Florida Republican has shown indications of preparing for a potential presidential run in the 2024 election, putting him in competition with Donald Trump and other declared candidates.

According to two individuals familiar with the matter, as reported by The AP, Governor DeSantis is set to kick off his presidential campaign with a Twitter Spaces chat alongside Elon Musk on Wednesday.
