LOS ANGELES, CA - JUNE 4: A man is shot to death in the violent PlayStation 3 game, The Last of Us, at the Sony press conference on the eve of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) on June 4, 2012 in Los Angeles, California. E3 is the most important yearly trade show the $78.5 billion videogame industry.

The Last of Us Multiplayer Game: Delay?

Many fans expected Naughty Dogs to reveal more details about its upcoming The Last of Us Multiplayer Game during this week's PlayStation Showcase. However, Engadget reported that no information was revealed by the developers but rather stated that we'll need to wait much longer than expected for its release.

Naughty Dog stated, "We're incredibly proud of the job our studio has done thus far, but as development has continued, we've realized what is best for the game is to give it more time." It also seems unlikely to hear about the game at the upcoming Summer Game Fest in June, where Naughty Dog revealed a first peak at the concept art last year.

This also happens to be the same week as the 10th anniversary of the game arriving on PS3, which is why the fans expected to reveal more details about the game. But because of the last announcement, it might not happen already. As the developer slows down the development, the team reassesses the game's quality and long-term viability.

The Last of Us began in 2013 as a video game with various releases. The game sold more than 37 million units as of December 2022. The game became a cultural phenomenon as fans loved the characters and the story. This led to becoming an HBO TV series adaptation, which became one of the biggest hits this year.

Possible Reason

The team working on the game experienced setbacks during the development phase after a recent evaluation. As per people who asked not to be identified, the game has not been canceled but many of its developers have been moved to other projects. Bloomberg reported that a small group remains on the project while the company reevaluates the direction.

The developers started working with The Last of Us Multiplayer Game four years ago when they revealed a complementary mode to the sequel of the game. Due to the good feedback and request from its fans, the creators decided to make it into their own game.

In January, IGN reported that Naughty Dog shared new concept art from The Last of Us and revealed that it will release more information later this year. Co-President Neil Druckman stated this will be different from what the developers are known far as it will be a story and character-rich game.

Durckman stated, "With a team led by Vinit Agarwal, Joe Pettinati, and Anthony Newman, the project is shaping up to be a fresh, new experience from our studio, but one rooted in Naughty Dog's passion for delivering incredible stories, characters, and gameplay."
