NVIDIA's new AI technology can make NPC interactions more natural and realistic.

As of writing, graphics for NPCs (non-playable characters) already improved drastically.

These include NPCs in "Cyberpunk 2077," "GTA V," "Far Cry 5," "Assassin's Creed Odyssey," etc.

However, the main issue of NPCs still remains. This is the cringey and unnatural interactions with them.

With the new generative AI of NVIDIA, this problem is expected to be solved.

NVIDIA's New AI Tech for NPCs

According to Engadget's latest report, NVIDIA's new generative AI, Avatar Cloud Engine, was introduced at the recent Computex 2023 event.

The computer component manufacturer even showed a demo of its generative AI keynote during the conference.

In NVIDIA's Kairos demo, an NPC named Jin was used to show ACE's efficiency.

During the first part of the video, a playable character decided to interact with Jin.

Here's the first part of their conversation:

  • PLAYABLE CHARACTER: "Hey Jin, how are you?"
  • NPC (Jin): "Unfortunately, not so good."
  • PLAYABLE CHARACTER: "How come?"
  • NPC (Jin): "I am worried about the crime around here. It's gotten bad lately. My ramen shop got caught in the crossfire."

Effectiveness of NVIDIA's ACE

Based on the conversation between the playable character and Jin, the answers provided by the NPC were more natural.

However, the way Jin delivered them is still a bit off since there's a lack of emotion.

The main purpose of NVIDIA with its demo is to show that the new generative AI tech can lead to more natural responses from NPCs.

Aside from this, ACE can also allow gamers to speak through their headsets instead of typing or clicking options when interacting with NPCs.

"Developers of middleware, tools, and games can use ACE for Games to build and deploy customized speech, conversation, and animation AI models in their software and games," said NVIDIA via its official Newsroom post.

Aside from NVIDIA, other companies are also taking advantage of artificial intelligence.

These include Apple, which is now looking for generative AI talents

Meanwhile, Adobe is expected to release Photoshop's generative AI editing features soon.
