Sony will continue to develop smartphones, as the company signed a multi-year deal with Qualcomm to bring more next-generation phones to the public.

It will center on Sony's famous Xperia lineup, best known for mid-tier to flagship releases, also powered by the iconic processors from Qualcomm's Snapdragon.

While Sony may not be as famous as rival companies like Apple, Google, Samsung, Xiaomi, and more, their devices are known for quality specs in the industry.

Sony, Qualcomm to Continue Smartphone Development

Qualcomm announced on Thursday its collaboration with Sony, with both companies entering a multi-year deal that would help continue the Japanese company's smartphone development. This deal would help expand Xperia's availability in the market, centering on top and mid-tier releases from the company.

"We're thrilled to continue working with our longstanding partner Sony to deliver the next generation of premium mobile technologies to consumers," O.H. Kwon, senior vice president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies and president of Qualcomm Asia-Pacific (APAC), said in a statement.

Sony has yet to name any upcoming smartphones from this partnership, but it is perceived that this deal would have the company using its Snapdragon processors for all upcoming releases.

Qualcomm Snapdragon to Power Sony Phones

When Sony unveiled the latest Xperia 1 V in May, it came with Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon chip to power the device to give users a brand-new experience.

Sony and Qualcomm had long worked together, with the semiconductor company supplying the Japanese company with the components it needed. This recent deal further ensures the existence of future Sony smartphones, including its future developments with Qualcomm.

Sony's Famed Xperia Lineup

Sony revealed some of its upcoming smartphone models with notable specs in the past months. One of the most impressive launched by the company earlier this year was its flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 V, centering on a device meant for content creators.

Stunning specs were also seen with Sony's unveiling of the Xperia 5 V, which was also revealed earlier this year to bring one of the best gaming smartphones because of its impressive processor. First, it gets 16 GB RAM, paired with Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a promising device for all needs.

With Sony using Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors for a long time now, this multi-year deal ensures that the Japanese company's smartphone development will continue. It is beneficial for both companies as Qualcomm also saw massive success with its pairing with Sony's technology, which will soon expand with the Xperia lineup.

This will mark the start of an exciting time for Sony fans and smartphone enthusiasts alike. As more information becomes available, fans can all look forward to a phone that offers interesting features and powerful performance. All eyes are on the Japanese manufacturer now as it continues to make strides in the smartphone industry.
