A passionate fan used Nintendo's annual shareholder meeting to complain about the perceived special status of female characters in the shooter game 'Splatoon 3.'

The attendee, identified as Twitter user Haruikatako, had reportedly saved up a significant amount of money and purchased Nintendo shares to attend the meeting and voice their frustrations.

According to reports from sources present at the event, the attendee began their rant during the Q&A session, loudly criticizing the lack of customization options for male characters in Splatoon 3.

They specifically pointed out the limited choices for hairstyles and emotes compared to those available to their female counterparts.

Nintendo President Responds to Fan Rants

Sources also claimed that Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa attempted to interrupt the fan, citing the length of their question, but their concerns persisted.

Eventually, the attendee concluded their remarks, and Furukawa responded with a polite acknowledgment, saying, "Thank you for your interest in playing our game. We appreciate your valuable opinion."

Who Is the Mystery Fan?

NintendoEveything reports that Haruikatako, the fan who attended the meeting, had previously sent letters to Nintendo expressing their concerns but received no response.

Determined to communicate directly with the company, they invested in Nintendo shares, purchasing ¥512,000 or $3,570 worth of stocks. To raise funds, Haruikatako even resold items like the newly released Switch OLED, despite their parents' disapproval.

Suppose the avid investor strategically acquired shares during the period surrounding the highly anticipated launch of Splatoon 3 in September 2022. In that case, probably, their investment portfolio has already experienced substantial capital appreciation, thanks to the remarkable surge witnessed in Nintendo's stock value, propelled by the resounding triumph of "The Super Mario Bros. Movie."

Now, back to the fan's Splatoon 3 complaint.

Fan Rants About Splatoon 3 At Shareholders Meeting

The fan's frustration stemmed from what they perceived as favoritism toward female characters in Splatoon 3.

As NintendoLife reports, they claimed that the game's promotional material primarily showcased female characters, which made them feel neglected and apprehensive about the level of customization available for male characters.

While acknowledging the option to choose character styles rather than assigning genders, the fan argued that there was still apparent favoritism.

The incident has garnered significant attention within the Splatoon 3 community, particularly in Japan. While some fans agree with the attendee's concerns, some question the appropriateness of raising such complaints during a shareholder meeting.

Similar Incidents

This incident mirrors a similar occurrence at last year's shareholder meeting, where another attendee urged Nintendo to release a new installment in the F-Zero series.

While Nintendo has not provided an official statement regarding the incident, it is a testament to the passion and dedication of its fans.

As the company continues to engage with its community, it remains to be seen how it will address the concerns raised during the shareholder meeting and whether it will impact the development of Splatoon 3 or future titles.
