Jack Sweeney, a college student most recognized for founding the defunct @ElonJet Twitter account that monitored Elon Musk's private plane, has started the monitoring initiative on Meta's new social media platform Threads.

Sweeney announced the launch of ElonJet on Threads, which competes with Twitter, using the newly created @elonmusksjet account, which as of July 10th already has 80,000 followers, according to The Verge.

He indicated his wish to continue working on his project on the platform in a direct message to Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Meta. Jack Sweeney even gave credit to the @zuckerbergjet account, which keeps track of the whereabouts of Zuckerberg's personal aircraft, per Long View News Journal.

Three updates on Elon Musk's flights have been provided to the @zuckerbergjet account as of the present reporting.

Prior to last year, Jack Sweeney had been following Zuckerberg's jet on Facebook and Instagram, but she felt compelled to cease doing so on Twitter. The persistent following of Sweeney's private plane raised safety concerns, so Twitter CEO Elon Musk deactivated Sweeney's account.

Sweeney Makes Fun of Elon Musk

Sweeney announced his return to Threads by criticizing Twitter and expressing his desire for the popular social media's extinction. He also thinks the Elon Musk-owned site has "search banned" him.

On his Threads account, Sweeney pokes fun at Musk while revealing information on his aircraft, bringing up Musk's prior threats to sue Meta for supposedly stealing Twitter's platform.

After a purported stalker allegedly followed a car carrying Elon Musk's kid, Twitter adopted a new rule banning the transmission of real-time location information, which led to Sweeney's account being banned in December 2022, per the New York Post.

Elon Musk commented on the situation on Twitter and made it seem like Jack Sweeney was at fault. The college student, who claimed the event involved a vehicle and not a jet, refuted the charge. In addition, Sweeney noted that the alleged encounter happened a day after his last tweet from the account.

Elon Musk Jet Tracker Plans to Stay

The 21-year-old programmer said he kept tracking the plane using a separate Twitter account after being suspended, updating the position with a 24-hour delay. Other social media sites, including Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, and Mastodon, continue to provide real-time information.

Jack Sweeney started watching Musk's aircraft in 2020, and when it was shut off, his @ElonJet account had close to 500,000 followers. Based on information that was readily accessible, he also followed the paths of notable individuals, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian, and former US President Donald Trump.

He hopes that Meta will one day let him resume auto-posting, but for the time being, he will keep maintaining his Threads account manually.
