Elon Musk announced his newest AI business, xAI, on Wednesday. The company's main goal is to comprehend the universe's underlying principles.

Competent professionals who have previously worked at renowned AI companies like DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, Twitter, and Tesla make up the xAI team. They have worked on projects including DeepMind's AlphaCode and OpenAI's renowned GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 chatbots, according to CNBC.

Dan Hendrycks, executive director of the Center for AI Safety, will advise Elon Musk's new AI company. The San Francisco-based xAI released a statement in May signed by prominent tech industry members and called for the world to prioritize reducing the dangers connected with AI, which are comparable to those of pandemics and nuclear weapons.

More Details on xAi To Be Disclosed Soon

Musk appears to position xAI as a rival to OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, who have created leading chatbots like ChatGPT, Bard, and Claude. The controversial tech mogul reportedly acquired thousands of GPU processors from Nvidia in April, perhaps to run a vast language model.

Elon Musk also revealed his intentions for "TruthGPT" in a Fox News Channel interview that month and voiced worry that businesses using AI today favor "politically correct" technologies.

The xAI team will conduct a Twitter Spaces conversation on July 14, where participants may engage with the team and ask questions, per The Verge.

The xAI website stresses that the firm is distinct from Musk's overarching X Corp but will work closely with X (Twitter), Tesla, and other companies. Elon Musk temporarily limited Twitter viewing owing to AI firms harvesting data for large language models (LLMs).

According to the company's first papers from April, Elon Musk's new AI company xAI was launched in Nevada when he was named the director and Jared Birchall, the director of Musk's family office, as the secretary. According to reports, SpaceX and Tesla provided funding for xAI.

Co-founding OpenAI in 2015 was one of Musk's earlier contributions to the AI industry. To avoid any conflicts of interest with Tesla, which has substantial AI operations, he left the company in 2018.

Elon Musk Joins 'Out of Control' AI Race

Elon Musk expressed in previous interviews his worry about the "out of control" AI race destroying humans and he urged for a temporary pause in AI developments.

Although xAI's objective remains unknown, the website shows a hiring campaign.

When Musk revealed xAI, Twitter, the business he paid $44 billion for in October, was in a precarious position since Meta had just released a competing social media platform called Threads. Over 100 million people signed up for the Meta app within a week, but Twitter use is allegedly on the fall, CNN reported.

These developments come after a string of contentious personnel cuts, policy revisions, and aggressive statements from Musk that alienated some Twitter users and advertisers.

Elon Musk is the CEO of several businesses besides Twitter, including Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, and The Boring Company.
