Being one of the most powerful portable, handheld gaming consoles in the world, one would not expect the ASUS ROG Ally would have any issues apart from spending too much time playing. However, ASUS recently confirmed an issue with the handheld device regarding its SD card reading issues that are now affecting gameplay.

This is something that ASUS can fix, fortunately, as the company told its users to wait for the upcoming update that will help resolve the issues.

Asus ROG Ally brings a significant development to handheld gaming, but is currently experiencing issues with its heating and SD card.

As per its recent post in the ROG Message Board, this SD card issue roots in "thermal stress conditions" that significantly affect the read process.

Simply, this means that whenever the console is heating up, it causes the system's SD card reader to malfunction and no longer perform as necessary.

This, in turn, disrupts gaming, especially for those who download their games to the SD card or whenever accessing save files via the external tech.

ASUS ROG promised to resolve the issues with the Ally's SD card reader, and this is by releasing an update soon.

Its upcoming update would bring performance changes for the Ally's fan speeds, to fine-tune its minimum and default fan speeds whenever using the console. It will also help in reducing the sounds it causes, as it too was a concern for gamers.

The ASUS ROG Ally was the Taiwanese brand's take on a gaming handheld which then competes with the current top-grossing device, the Valve Steam Deck which popularized the portable experience. The Ally was said to be the better version of the Steam Deck, featuring powerful processors and can actually take on a massive AAA-rated games in the market.

It also faced significant competition from other the brands and devices, and not only from the Steam Deck.

A company called the AYANEO has introduced different gaming handhelds in the past, centering on its Air Plus, Geek, and the Ayaneo 2

More are coming in the future, and let us not forget the device that started it all, the Nintendo Switch.

The ROG Ally was one of the most promising handhelds in the market as it was deemed to be a "Steam Deck Killer," mainly because of the capabilities it has. However, it was met with mixed reviews in the beginning because of its sucky battery life.

Now, the Ally is facing another issue with heating, affecting the reading function of its SD card, to soon see a fix from ASUS ROG.
