In one of the rarest of the rare occurrences in recent times, a French woman reported that she was hit by a mysterious rock in the chest, initially not knowing that it was a meteorite. The uneventful happening took place early in the morning in Schirmeck, a commune in the northeast of France, with the space rock first hitting a nearby roof before flying off to hit her.

There are small chances that a meteor or a meteorite would hit a person, as there are many factors that might affect its entry on the planet, especially to specific places like France.

French newspaper Les Dernières Nouvelles d'Alsace (DNA) reported that there was a bizarre accident in the northeastern commune of France, particularly in Schirmeck, where a woman was hit by a meteorite early in the morning.

As per the woman, the first heard a loud "boom" on a nearby roof, but the next thing she knew was she was hit in the chest, near her ribs, by an unknown object. As per her recollection of the event, she and her friend initially thought that this was an animal, a bat, which flew straight to her.

However, they quickly discovered that it was indeed a rock of a bizarre appearance. At first, the woman and her friend compared it to concrete to determine its make, but it did not resemble the characteristics of concrete.

The woman did not have any serious injuries apart from the bruise on her chest because of the impact.

According to Interesting Engineering, the woman took the rock to a geologist named Dr. Thierry Rebmann, who went on to analyze it and determine what it was.

It was later deemed by the geologist that it was indeed of extraterrestrial origins, and not something from the planet.

Meteorites and Their Appearances on the Planet

Call it a bizarre or rare occurrence in France, this was not the first time this year that a space rock fell from the skies and went straight to the northern French province. An earlier reported discovery by astronomy and science group Vigie-Ciel has managed to get ahold of a rare 2023 CX1 Fireball around the Normandy region of the country.

The Mount Lemmon Observatory's David Rankin from Arizona has also discovered a rare cosmic phenomenon where an asteroid was seen around six hours before its actual impact. The said space rock crashed into Ontario Lake in Canada and was about 3 meters in size, which came from the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

While objects from space are rare to enter the planet and fall to the ground, the chance of it hitting a person directly is a rare occurrence in the present. However, it still happened, and while the woman walked away unharmed, it surely will be a significant thing to remember especially when hanging out around one's terrace and sipping one's morning coffee.
