ChatGPT is still on the rise and OpenAI capitalizes on the opportunity, the same thing that Microsoft is doing right now. While this trend continues, Apple is discreetly working on its strategy for generative AI.

A Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman reveals that Apple is internally testing a chatbot called "Apple GPT" using the Ajax framework. This move is seen as Apple's answer to privacy concerns and a potential leap into the world of AI.

Can Apple GPT Compete with ChatGPT? Gurman Says Generative AI Features Coming in 2024
(Photo: Laurenz Heymann from Unsplash) Gurman says in a report that Apple is planning to unveil a ChatGPT-like tool dubbed AppleGPT.

Apple prohibited its employees from using ChatGPT because of data confidentiality in May. It joined other tech giants such as Amazon and JPMorgan Chase in this campaign.

However, who would have thought that the Cupertino giant could just be preparing for the launch of AppleGPT? This could be the new rival of OpenAI's tool if the report from Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman is true.

Many people are using AI chatbots nowadays to help with their tasks. Since generative AI is a big help when it comes to marketing and other disciplines, businesses tend to heavily invest in these tools.

According to 9to5Mac,  Apple is making strides in this domain. Gurman mentioned in its report that the company is preparing to reveal a new generative AI chatbot called "Apple GPT."

Built on the Ajax framework, which Apple initiated in 2022, this AI project aims to create shared machine learning foundations. Already, the company has applied AI advancements to improve its search, Siri, and maps functions, showcasing the capabilities of its AI initiatives.

However, the current testing of "Apple GPT" remains internally restricted, requiring special approval for access.

While Apple employees employ it for product prototyping, the output cannot be utilized for customer-facing features, addressing the company's cautious approach towards user privacy.

How Will Apple Approach Generative AI

Unlike other AI developers, Apple does not plan to release "Apple GPT" publicly. This surprising move appears to be Apple's response to potential privacy risks associated with third-party controlled generative AI.

By exploring its in-house AI solution, the Cupertino firm aims to ensure greater control over user data and build an AI tool that aligns with its privacy-first approach.

Moving forward, it can be seen that Apple's commitment to generative AI is evident in its ongoing initiatives.

Collaborating between AI and software engineering groups, as well as the cloud services engineering team, Apple is actively laying the groundwork for potential AI-related announcements in the near future.

While the company does not have a fixed plan yet, speculations suggest a significant AI-related revelation by Apple next year.

We could recall via The Verge that Tim Cook told Good Morning America about Apple's plans for AI products. The CEO said that there's a need to sort out several issues related to AI.
