According to the story by Gaming Bible, a launch of a new PS5 console could happen in the "imminent future." This comes as rumors are have been building for almost a year saying that it's finally in its latest development stage.

While many rumors have started to rise regarding a potential new console, one insider claims to know when that new console is scheduled to be released. This comes as the article notes that expectation is building regarding mid-expectation consoles coming from Sony.

The PS4 had Many Variations Like the PS4 Pro and PS4 Slim, Leading People to Believe New Versions of the PS5 are on the Way

The article then gives the example of the PlayStation 4, wherein buyers were also given the PS4 Pro and the PS4 Slim. However, after three years into the life cycle of the PS5, there still aren't any variations regarding the new console.

Because of this, many people are starting to ask what would come next of the PlayStation 5. In 2022, it was announced that insiders started to talk about a redesign for the particular console.

Rumors Point Toward Sony Building a PS5 Slim with the Main Feature Being a Detachable Disc Drive

So far, there were a few that have been pointing at a potential PS5 Slim but so far, the main feature would basically be a detachable disc drive if this was real. An article by Notebook Check, for instance, also tackles the rumor regarding Sony building a PS5 Slim.

Sony has already produced two types of PlayStation 5 versions, the digital and the standard. However, with the new design, only one base would be required as players could still decide if they choose to purchase the additional disc drive, which would be optional.

Detachable Disc Drive for the PS5 Remains Unconfirmed by Sony and Still Just a Rumor

The detachable disc drive for the PS5 still remains unconfirmed by Sony but has been mentioned by insiders for a long time now. The rumors, like coming from XboxEra podcaster Shpeshal_Nick on Twitter, say that the revelation of a potential PS5 Slim could happen in August.

Another report coming from FandomWire added that instead of August, it could happen in September. Yet again, these still remain unofficial and the only ones that can tell whether a new console exists or whether it would be revealed or launched in September would be Sony.

Sony has yet to confirm whether they would really hold an August showcase or if they really have a new console cooking in the background. As of press time, the PS5 Slim or the detachable disc drive version remain just a rumor.
