Sony has recently released new patch notes for the PlayStation 4. The latest firmware update, 10.71, is expected to come with some improvements related to the console's system performance.

Sony PS4 Firmware Update 10.71 Released Which Gamers Need to Apply for Online Multiplayer Access

According to Twisted Voxel, just like the previous Sony-released PS4 update, the new one was a mandatory firmware update. Gamers reportedly needed it to be downloaded first before the players could play any new games online.

It was also reported that for players who are frequent users of the online multiplayer option, the update is essential for them to continue playing their favorite titles. The report then highlighted the different update inclusions on the PlayStation patch notes.

PS4 Software Update Promises Users Better System Performance, but No Clear Explanation Was Given

Interestingly, the only main feature is that the software update comes with better system performance. Users will be able to access them whenever they try to update their console.

The article further noted that although Sony was not that clear regarding the type of changes they are making for the particular console, the PS4 has already accomplished its life cycle when it comes to most updates as of press time.

Sony PS4 Falls Behind the PS2 in Terms of Numbers as the Latter is Considered the Most Sold PlayStation

According to the report, the console would only get updates to fix security exploits and, hopefully, a few new features. The article further noted that the update could be released to stop potentially harmful exploits from affecting users and their PS4 consoles.

However, Twisted Voxel also reported that players who want to use their console playing homebrew would not recommend users getting the latest console. So far, the PS4 is still considered one of the most successful consoles that Sony ever released, just a little behind the PS2, which sold the most numbers.

Sony PS2 Console Sold 158 Million Units Worldwide, With 55 Million Sold in Europe Alone

According to Statista, the PS2 was able to sell a whopping 158 million units worldwide, which includes over 55 million consoles in Europe alone. It was reportedly the most-sold console ever in a span of 20 years.

The console has already sold over 125 million units worldwide, and despite the launch of the newer PS5, the older console still continues to get support. It comes as developers of popular titles like "Resident Evil 4" remake and more provide support for the console.

Developers That Continue to Support the PS4 Console

Other title developers include "Street Fighter 6" and "God of War Ragnarok," which still supports the second to the latest PlayStation. So far, Sony is planning to continue the transition towards focusing more on its latest console, the PS5.

According to Twisted Voxel, Sony's focus shifting toward the newer console would mean fewer first-party games moving forward.
