One of the top game online play platforms in the world, PlayStation Plus, is getting a price increase, as recently announced by Sony, in its bid to improve more of its offers and bundles available for its subscribers. This mainly focuses on the platform's 12-month subscription on all tiers, affecting the prices that gamers would have to pay on its annual bundle for the experience. 

While Sony's PS Plus is not the top-regarded online and game service in the world, it is the service that PlayStation users have enjoyed with its perks and free titles available.

Sony Raises PS Plus' 12-month Prices

The PlayStation Blog announced the latest changes Sony made for the PS Plus subscription service, and it centers on the price increase that affects its 12-month bundles in all tiers. This is alongside the company's announcement of the September offers of the online subscription service, promising the new games that will be available for free starting next week. 

Its annual pricing is as follows:

  • PlayStation Plus Essential - $79.99 (previously $59.99)
  • PlayStation Plus Extra - $134.99 (previously $99.99)
  • PlayStation Plus Premium - $159.99 (119.99)

The price increases were massive, from $20 to as much as $40 to add on the subscription service depending on the tiers that gamers are on. 

Still, these prices remain at a discounted rate compared to buying it every month, with the service offering two months free for each tier.

Why is there a PlayStation Plus Hike?

According to Sony, "This price adjustment will enable us to continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service." 

The company opted for a price hike instead of remaining at the same value but will be limiting or removing some features available on the service, with Sony promising more games and benefits to enjoy.

Much like the Nintendo Switch Online and the Xbox Game Pass, Sony's PlayStation Plus is the service that gives both online play and free games that arrive in a monthly rotation for gamers to download and own. The online subscription service is required for online play, and it allows everyone to enjoy a connected experience via its servers and systems.

Apart from free games and online play, members have exclusive perks and features available, and this also includes the service bringing massive discounts and sales for different PlayStation titles for gamers to grab.

The good thing about this is, that users can download the game and would not rely on an online stream via the cloud to experience to access it at all times.
