Apple unveiled its latest offerings, the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro, now powered by the M3 chip, during the "Scary Fast" event on Monday.

These cutting-edge laptops provide configuration options with the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips, all promising substantial performance improvements compared to the previous-generation M2 chip.

Introducing M3 Chip

The new MacBook Pro models are currently open for preorders on the official website of Apple, with a scheduled release date in November.

The Verge reported that the M3 and M3 Pro versions are set to arrive on November 7, while the M3 Max is expected to be shipped at a later date. But what's new with the new variant?

The new MacBook Pro blasts forward with M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max, the most advanced chips ever built for a personal computer.

In the past, Digital Trends reported that the 14-inch model exclusively featured Pro and Max-series chips and had a starting price of $1,999.

However, in the current lineup, the base 14-inch laptop is equipped with the M3 chip and features half the RAM, 4TB less storage, and fewer GPU and CPU cores, resulting in a reduced price starting at $1,599.

The Pro and Max series of laptops also come in a sleek black color option, which Apple claims is constructed from materials resistant to fingerprints. While the base 14-inch model does not offer black, it is available in both gray and silver finishes.

M3 vs. M2 Macbook Pros

Despite these changes, The Verge reported that the overall design of the MacBook Pros remains largely consistent with their predecessors.

They all share the same Liquid Retina XDR displays, with the 14-inch Pro boasting a maximum resolution of 3024 x 1964 and the 16-inch version offering a 3456 x 2234 resolution.

The port selection remains unchanged, featuring two or three USB-C ports, an SD card reader, an HDMI port, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

However, aside from the cost and cosmetic updates, substantial changes are occurring within the laptops' internals. Notably, the memory configurations of the Pro and Max series have been expanded.

The M3 Pro chips now can support up to 36GB of RAM, a slight boost compared to the M2 Pro's maximum of 32GB. On the other hand, the M3 Max offers an impressive 128GB of RAM, surpassing the previous 96GB limit, marking a groundbreaking achievement for Apple laptops.

Improved Performance of Apple Laptops

One of the most striking transformations relates to performance, 9To5Mac reported. The M3 chips are constructed using the 3-nanometer process, identical to the one utilized in the iPhone 15 Pro's new A17 Pro chips. This results in enhanced performance compared to the previous models.

Simultaneously, it signifies that the M3 series is more energy-efficient, delivering equivalent multithreaded performance to the M1 while utilizing approximately half the power.

In sum, each laptop in the M3 lineup is expected to offer up to 22 hours of battery life, surpassing their forerunners. Regarding GPU and CPU cores, the M3 Max chips outperform their predecessors.

The M3 Max is equipped with a 16-core CPU and a GPU that can have up to 40 cores, offering a remarkable 80% boost in GPU performance compared to the M1 Max, according to Apple.
