Threads users can now exercise more control over the visibility of their posts on Instagram and Facebook, providing an option to opt out of cross-platform suggestions. At the same time, they can now delete their Threads profile without automatically deleting their Instagram accounts as well, according to reports by The Verge and Engadget

How to Disable Post Suggestions

To implement this change, users can navigate to the Threads app, tap the two lines in the top right corner, access Privacy, and then disable post suggestions on Instagram or Facebook through the provided switches.

It is  worth noting that Meta typically introduces Threads features gradually, so users who don't immediately see these toggles are advised to wait for the rollout.

How to Delete Threads Accounts

In a recent update, Meta has addressed a long-standing user request by allowing Threads users to delete their accounts on the app without affecting their Instagram profiles, according to Adam Mosseri, the app's top executive. To remove a profile from the Threads app, users can follow the path Settings -> Account -> Delete or deactivate profile.

The modification comes on the heels of another settings adjustment, enabling Threads users to opt out of having their posts promoted in the main feeds of Instagram and Facebook. While these changes offer users more control over their Threads experience, the app remains closely connected to Instagram.

While these changes offer users more control over their Threads experience, the app remains closely connected to Instagram.

The necessity of an Instagram account to join Threads and the app's reliance on Instagram's inbox for its messaging feature underscore the interconnectedness of the two platforms.

Despite these ties, Meta has expressed intentions to make Threads compatible with ActivityPub, an open-source protocol that powers various services in the fediverse. While details are scarce, this integration could open new avenues for interacting with Threads content independently of Instagram.

Meta Introduces Additional Features on Threads

In a related update, Threads users can now enjoy additional features introduced by Meta, as shared by Mark Zuckerberg. These include an easier method for posting GIFs and the ability to incorporate polls within the platform. These enhancements align Threads more closely with its competitor, X, a Meta-owned app that has seen widespread use of similar features.

Mark Zuckerberg recently celebrated Threads' significant growth, reaching up to 100 million active users. While slightly below this impressive figure, the app continues to expand its user base, signaling its growing influence in the social media landscape.

As Meta continues to refine Threads and respond to user feedback, the platform's evolution may offer even more options for users seeking a more independent and customizable experience.
