Japanese tech company LY Corporation says that over 440,000 individuals were exposed in a recent data breach. Unknown hackers may have leaked their data.

Based on the report by local news reporter Kyodo News, the potential breach involves over 300,000 records of user information, including service usage history and internal identifiers. Importantly, sensitive details like bank account information, credit card records, and chat messages are confirmed to be unaffected.

LY Corporation has assured users and business partners that necessary measures, including blocking external access, have been implemented to contain the situation.

Additionally, the company acknowledges that the breach extends beyond individual users. Approximately 86,000 items of business partner data, such as email addresses, and over 51,000 employee records, including names and employee ID numbers, were compromised.

The incident traces back to early October, originating from malware infecting a computer owned by an LY subcontractor, leading to unauthorized access.

Immediate Actions and Ongoing Investigation

In response to the breach, LY Corporation swiftly blocked external access and initiated investigations into the incident, Times Now News reports. While details about the specific location of the breach were not disclosed, the company issued notices in multiple languages, reflecting its user base and business connections.

LY Corporation's Recent Formation and Historical Privacy Concerns

LY Corporation emerged last month following the merger of Z Holdings Corp, Yahoo Japan Corp, and Line Corp under the SoftBank Group umbrella. Line has encountered privacy issues in the past, including a situation in 2021 where it restricted access to user data at its Chinese affiliate due to concerns about unauthorized access by Chinese engineers, per a report by South China Morning Post.

The latest cybersecurity incident shows the ongoing challenges in maintaining digital security and user privacy, prompting companies like LY Corporation to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding sensitive information.

As investigations continue, users are advised to stay informed about the situation and take necessary precautions to secure their online data.

In other news, Tech Times recently reported that Google is now preparing to purge inactive accounts in Gmail and Photos.

The search engine giant has confirmed that by Dec. 1, the old Gmail accounts are at risk of getting deleted instantly. If your account is purged, you will not access your files and other documents anymore on your Gmail, Gdrive, and other Google apps.

To prevent this from happening, make sure you open your account before the said deadline. Don't forget to sign in your account or else you will be greeted with a dire consequence.
