The latest development over at Meta's Quest is the revelation of a new wearable that the company is developing, and it is the next-gen XR headset which claimed of impressive new features. However, reports claim that it is looking familiar with some of the more popular tech.

Now, a report claims that it has similar features and designs to that of the Apple Vision Pro, and this is surprising as the current Quest 3's top rival, is the Cupertino wearable that is yet to arrive.

Meta's New XR Headset Unveiled in a Recent Showcase

Douglas Lanman, Meta's Director of Display Systems Research, recently unveiled a new VR headset that the company has conceptualized, showing off the new design to the University of Arizona's College of Optical Sciences. In his talk, Lanman claimed that this device is called the "Mirror Lake," and with the first look, it shows off the see-through lenses for the wearable.

This device is an advanced prototype says Lanman, and he regarded that it is "practical to build now" thanks to the recent advancements made by Meta in the XR world.

However, it is important to note that this is only a prototype from Meta, with various designs also appearing before like the Butterscotch Varifocal that can help mimic the way the eye focuses on subjects.

Apple Vision Pro Dupe? Reports Claim it Looks Alike

TechRadar claimed that the headset looked like a mix of the Quest Pro and the Apple Vision Pro, featuring certain elements where Cupertino's wearable look alike. This new headset is only a prototype, and it is years away from its arrival said the speculations.

The new headset has see-through lenses that make it a full-pledged XR, and it will use the HoloCake lenses, electronic varifocal tech, and an open-side design inspired by the Quest Pro. Watch Lanman's presentation below.

Meta's Quest: Augmented and Virtual Reality

For many years now, Meta has been one of the top names in the virtual and augmented reality industry, and this is thanks to its Oculus acquisition which gave the company the Quest family. The company has developed four mainline headsets in the present, including the original Oculus Quest, the Meta Quest 2, the Meta Quest 3, and the Meta Quest Pro which is its most expensive.

Oculus's Quest and the Quest Pro are all focused on delivering the virtual reality experience, mostly centering on games and apps that offer an immersive experience.

However, Meta's direction changed with the arrival of the Quest 3, offering mixed reality for its users, integrating the real world and the virtual space.

More is expected from Meta in the future of immersive tech wearables, all centering on its Quest lineup to debut further developments and experiences to the world. Now, the latest revelation points out to a future XR headset that the company is currently developing, and it is unknown if this is the Quest 4, featuring design cues from the Quest Pro and the Vision Pro, complete with a see-through lens.
