Yep, Kratos is still dead in the mortal world in God of War: Ragnarok and that was the ending of the game. However, this does not mean that Kratos is dead in spirit, as the latest revelation on The Game Awards 2023 shows off the first downloadable content of Ragnarok, with Valhalla coming soon for the world to experience.
Apart from this new content that continues where the 2022 sequel game left off, users will get to enjoy this return to the God of War franchise without any additional costs.
God of War: Ragnarok Valhalla DLC Unveiled via The Game Awards

God of War: Ragnarok has a sequel, but it is not in the form of another game, but via the recently unveiled Valhalla DLC coming to users soon. The reveal trailer detailed much about what to expect with the upcoming continuation of Kratos' story, and this takes place immediately after the events of Ragnarok.
From what Sony said in the PlayStation Blog, this Valhalla DLC is a treat for gamers' support and love for the game, meaning that this is a fan service.
Moreover, this is an epilogue to Ragnarok, and it will be more of a "deeply personal and reflective journey" for Kratos.
The DLC features its unique take on the Nordic afterlife, and here, Kratos is accompanied by Mimir, the Norse god of wisdom which he carries on his back, faced with new trials in this roguelite game.
Valhalla DLC: When is the Free Content Coming?
God of War: Ragnarok Valhalla DLC is coming to the PS5 for free this Tuesday, December 12, and it is in time for the season of giving from Sony Santa Monica.

Apart from the familiar God of War experience, PlayStation regarded that the team incorporated "fresh, experimental elements" and will allow gamers to progress more despite dying and restarting outside the doors of Valhalla repeatedly.
The God of War Franchise
Sony and Sony Santa Monica delivered one of the most iconic third-person action games in the world back in 2009, offering the world a chance to dive into Greek mythology, with the Spartan, Kratos. Its initial success saw significant growth for the franchise, leading to a trilogy release, but was subsequently followed by a revamp of the series in 2018, shifting to Norse mythology.
While there have been concerns regarding its change to Nordic beliefs, God of War (2018) was well-received by gamers, and this previous Game of the Year winner gave the world what it asked for.
Then, Ragnarok came, and gamers were yet again excited for this installation of God of War, as the name suggests, it is the end for this specific story and not get a third release to follow up.
God of War (2018) was supposedly another trilogy, as regarded by one of its developers, but felt like Ragnarok should be a fitting end to Kratos' story, instead of pushing for another game.
That being said, this did not stop the company from creating this new follow-up to the game, with God of War: Ragnarok Valhalla DLC coming this December 12, following Kratos' journey in the afterlife.
