A new promotional program by Burger King Brazil was spotted online, with many reports calling it a marketing stunt, centering on the 'Hangover Whopper.' This new feature by the company uses facial recognition technology in its stores, and if it detects that the customer is drunk or flushed, it will reward them with coupons and discounts when buying some late-night or early-morning grub.

Burger King Brazil has a new promotional treat for customers who will be dropping in flushed in its restaurants in the country, and the company calls this a "Hangover Whopper" that will offer coupons. Their latest offer for customers detailed in its latest ad claims that for those walking into the store and getting detected by the system to be drunk, a corresponding discount awaits.

This is with BK Brazil's latest setup of facial recognition technology in their store's cameras, with this judging the level of drunkenness a customer has.

According to Marketing Dive, it is part of its Holiday promotion, with the renowned food company saying "At the end of the year, it's Friday every day."

Night Out and Eating in BK Brazil Gets You Coupons

After a night out or a morning drink, customers walking into Brazil's participating Burger King establishments will give hangover customers corresponding discounts or coupons for a certain combo meal, depending on their level of intoxication.

This promotion on Burger King Brazil will last until January 2, 2024, and its face-scanning will be done through the mobile app.

Facial Recognition Technology Now

While the likes of Burger King are celebrating the use of facial recognition technology as part of its promotions, others are protesting against it, and tech companies are getting massive issues from it. There are many problems taken up against facial recognition tech, particularly with the privacy issue it brings, but there are also problems with wrongful arrests, centering on racial concerns.

There was also the infamous case of Clearview AI, the company that has been massive in the facial recognition scene but is also infamous for its access to collections of images and data. It received massive complaints and run-ins with the world's government, with the United Kingdom's Information Commissioner Office (ICO) posing a $9.5 million fine against its alleged illegal activities.

Despite the many claims and promises of facial recognition technology and how much it improved, many are still against it, especially as it collects data without consent. In Burger King Brazil's case, it is used as a promotional tool but may give a negative connotation to the public regarding going to its restaurants in a drunken state, all for coupons and discounts for a meal.
