Last year, we saw Meta's massive entry into the field of artificial intelligence, but the company is not stopping there as it is looking to develop the famed AGI, also known as artificial general intelligence. This gets more interesting as the company's dedication to it stems from its CEO Mark Zuckerberg's focus on developing this technology, as he reiterated in his posts.

With AGI, Meta will see massive changes that would help it in various aspects of its business, including its research and the metaverse.

A new series of posts from Mark Zuckerberg via Threads unveils Meta's new developments towards the world of AI, with two of its AI research coming together to form its goals to bring artificial general intelligence. Zuckerberg regarded that the next generation of services will require 'full general intelligence' which encompasses AI assistants, AI for creators, AI for businesses, and more.

According to Zuckerberg's replies, "Our long term vision is to build general intelligence, open source it responsibly, and make it widely available so everyone can benefit."

To be more specific, Meta's two major research groups, FAIR and GenAI, will see growth in the coming future, all responsible for its AGI venture.

Artificial General Intelligence from Meta

Meta is already preparing to build this "massive infrastructure," saying that it will have a total of 350,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs by the end of the year, having a total of 600,000 H100 GPUs for its AI.

With this, Meta looks to improve more of its research, but also include its long-awaited venture, the metaverse, which its AGI will help deliver in the future.

Meta's Take on AI and the Metaverse

There is no doubt that Meta is among those who have danced with AI development among the Big Tech for a long time now, with the renowned company best known for revealing its large-language model in mid-2022. With this, Meta claims that its developments would be responsible and safe for all, especially as it made the LLM open-source for all to access.

Last year, the seeds from Meta's developments towards generative AI bore their fruits, as its early takes on programs and experiences made their way to its different platforms, including its social media apps. Facebook Messenger and Instagram both got AI image editing and generative AI stickers that users may create right on the app, but they quickly became the center of controversy for their "unsafe" creations.

Zuckerberg's massive focus on AI now only shows that the company is all in for its development, with the renowned CEO staying on top of things over at Meta. The next step for Meta and Zuck's foray towards the world of AI is the development of artificial general intelligence, joining other billionaires in their respective ventures, with Meta promising responsibility and massive applications, including its Metaverse.
