According to the latest post by Rivian on LinkedIn, the company is moving forward with the expansion of its electric vehicle fleet, centering on its new EV platforms with the onboarding of a renowned executive in the automotive industry. Rivian named Jonas Reinke to be joining the company as its new Vice President of Product Management, to help the company bring the R2 and other developments to the world.

We are very happy to welcome Jonas to the Rivian team. His product expertise will help us with the launch of new platforms like the R2 and the continued product improvements of our R1T and R1S. I look forward to working closely together as we tackle this next great wave of product launches.

What to Expect from Rivian's New Electric Vehicle Platforms

The company did not expand more on its next-generation electric vehicle platforms but did mention the upcoming development of the R2. Still, there is no other information divulged by the company regarding what the EV would be, if it would be a successor to the R1T or R1S, its electric pickup and SUV models, respectively.

Rivian and its Electric Vehicle Developments

While Rivian delivered one of the earliest electric pickup trucks in the United States, alongside the Ford F-150 Lightning, GM's Hummer EV, and more, the company faced massive hardship as it was rolling out its version of the EVs. However, it looked towards bouncing back in 2023, claiming that it is enforcing a new "Interval EV Production" that will help boost the units it delivers.

The company's goals claim that it is looking to produce around 50,000 electric vehicles by the end of 2023, centering on the two models it offers, the R1T and the R1S. In its recent release of the Q4 2023 earnings report, Rivian shared that it was able to produce a total of 57,232 EVs and delivered 50,122 for the entire year, meeting the goals it imposed last year.

With Rivian achieving its goals for 2023, the company is now looking into a new focus that will help further expand the brand, and this is with the arrival of its new EV platforms. There are teasers or prototypes yet for the R2 and R3 platforms, but that may soon be available to the public to usher in the new era of Rivian, alongside the leadership by Reinke towards what it will offer in the future.
