Apple is strengthening its iMessage experience with the latest update to the service called "Post Quantum Encryption," debuting the new protocol on the app for the messaging platform. This goes beyond the existing end-to-end encryption (E2E) that Apple introduced before, citing that this new technology will make the iMessage more private and safer.

The PQ3 is a new term coined by Apple alongside the introduction of this new encryption protocol, claiming to be the most secure service available on iMessage.

The latest blog post from Apple unveils its new security technology for the iMessage, with the company calling it the Post Quantum Encryption (PQ3), and offers fewer worries for the user. The company said that this development delivers a new "state of the art in quantum-secure messaging at scale," the most advanced which the company delivered for the service.

With compromise-resilient encryption and extensive defenses against even highly sophisticated quantum attacks, PQ3 is the first messaging protocol to reach what we call Level 3 security - providing protocol protections that surpass those in all other widely deployed messaging apps.

Moreover, the Cupertino giant went as far as to claim that this features the "strongest security properties of any at-scale messaging protocol" worldwide.

Apple's PQ3 on iMessage is More Private, Secure

The previous E2E encryption of iMessage was at Level 1, but with this update, it is already at Level 3, an all-new category that Apple established with this release.

Apple said that this development was made possible due to new public key algorithms known as post-quantum cryptography (PQC), offering a building block for quantum-secure protocols that do not require quantum computers to run and offer a more private and secure experience.

Apple's iMessage and E2E Encryption

For many years now, Apple offered the iMessage with end-to-end encryption and this assured the public that the service is secure and safe from trackers or those looking into their conversations. However, it was also regarded that Apple's E2E is not entirely private and reliable, also, law enforcement officials may be able to view users' iMessage contacts but not the messages.

Moreover, Apple did not stop with the iMessage, as the company also added the recent iCloud end-to-end encryption security feature that would help make the cloud-based experience safer than before. Apple's iCloud is notorious for massive hacks and accesses before, with many threat actors leaking scandalous and explicit content from this service throughout the years.

Recent security upgrades also include the likes of Apple's Advanced Data Protection and better privacy features that prevent trackers from meddling with apps on Cupertino's devices. The latest update on iMessage introduces a new level of security for Apple's encryption protocol, calling it the PQ3, and promising a safer and more private experience than before.
