The Samsung Galaxy S6 and the HTC One M9 are dominating the rumor mill, but LG is not about to be left behind.

Joining all the hullaballoo of the Android flagship rumors is the South Korean smartphone manufacturer's LG G4, which is said to boast a display with a whopping 1620 x 2880 resolution.

The rumor is based off a report by MyLGPhone.com, which cites a "trust worthy tipster" who reportedly sent the website a screenshot of Verizon's website where a user with a User Agent profile posted information about the LG-VS999.

Considering that the LG G3 has a model number of LG-VS985, MyLGPhone.com has come to the conclusion that the LG-VS999 is indeed the LG G4 made exclusively for Verizon.

To add more fuel to the fire, another user posted on the French forum forum.hardware.fr that the LG G4 will indeed have a 1620 x 2880 resolution.

Last week, another leak surfaced on the Internet showcasing the LG H810 with a 1440 x 2560 display, which is believed to be the LG G4 for AT&T.

Verizon is known for demanding special, amped up versions of manufacturer's smartphones to be sold exclusively through its stores. Last year, Verizon obtained a special partnership to sell the Motorola Droid Turbo exclusively to its subscribers. If the rumor about the 3K LG G4 is true, then Verizon, the country's biggest mobile carrier, could have just another leg up over its competition.

That is, if users really care more about packing on more pixels into their screens. The LG G4 is believed to have a 5.5-inch screen, the same size as its predecessor the LG G3. At that size, the display would have a total of 600 pixels per inch (ppi), which is way above the 401ppi on the iPhone 6 Plus and the 515ppi on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4's Super AMOLED display. The LG G3 has 538ppi, and even that already seems overkill for some users.

Many technology enthusiasts believe smartphone resolution has reached a point of diminishing returns, meaning there is just not much benefit one can get from a smartphone with a 3K display, or even a 2K display.

Still, a lot of people like to have their gadgets tipping right over the bleeding edge of technology, so it's likely some people will grab the LG G4 from Verizon once it starts shipping.

However, one issue LG will have to deal with, if it is truly putting out a 3K smartphone, is the battery. Lighting up all those pixels requires a lot of juice, and smartphone manufacturers have greatly ignored battery life for other features, such as a slim profile and, yes, a higher resolution.

A 3K smartphone will certainly need a big battery to come with it, and it's definitely worth checking out the LG G4's battery life before spending what could only be a small fortune for LG's next flagship.

LG has yet to provide a specific schedule for shipping the LG G4. One thing is clear, though. It's not coming out anytime soon.

"We rolled out the G3 in May last year so we do not plan to unveil the G4 at this year's Mobile World Congress and spend more time perfecting the new phone," one LG executive told local news media.
