A new app surfaced from the controversial social media and it is called 'TikTok Photos,' a version of the app that is exclusive for sharing photos only, a feature that the company added in October 2022. Before this, users and content creators uploaded videos in a slideshow which may or may not have music, with the company adding the feature that allows to upload a carousel.
TikTok Photos: New App Discovered, Exclusively for Photos
The SpAndroid released an exclusive scoop about their latest discovery, citing that a standalone TikTok Photos app is existing within the TikTok Android version but remains unreleased to the public. Through a decompilation process, the analyst was able to discover the new app from TikTok from version 33.8.4, featuring a specific app for photo sharing alone.
It is important to note that TikTok already added the photo-sharing feature before, but this was not it, claimed the report, with the code strings shared by the user clearly stating that it is TikTok Photos.
Moreover, the leaker also shared TikTok's message about the dedicated Photos app found on the string, and this will be what the company will show its audience when they first download and use the app.
TikTok's Photos Appear Amidst Looming Ban
TikTok Photos appeared amidst a looming ban that hangs over the platform should the RESTRICT Act get passed by Congress, as POTUS Biden claimed that he will sign it once it is handed over.
This leak on TikTok Photos also contained the supposed logo of the standalone app, and it is nothing like the small letter 't' which also resembles a music note, as it centers on a 'P' logo that captures the original app's colors. It remains unknown when TikTok will release this new app for Android and iOS.
TikTok and its Status Now
At present, TikTok is still going strong with millions of users daily, and many still patronizing the social media platform for what it has to offer, with US-based fans backing the app and what it has to offer. However, it is still in deep trouble for the massive rally from US lawmakers which pushed for the RESTRICT Act bill to soon become law, looking to eliminate national security threats.
Recent events saw a significant progression of the said bill, as the US Representatives recently voted unanimously, 50-0, to advance it for a House floor vote. This next part of the vote would help advance it out of Congress, passing it for the US President for the final sign needed in turning it into a law, a proposition which only he has the power to veto.
The US reps claimed that they were urged to vote unanimously as TikTok asked its users to bombard their offices with calls, asking them to vote against its advancement.
With the political scrutiny and possible ban hanging over TikTok's heads now, the company has an app that aims to direct users towards a new platform exclusively for Photos, lying within its Android app version, but is unknown if it will make it to a public release.
