Jack Dorsey's Bluesky is now allowing users to utilize a third-party moderation service that will keep tabs on their use of the social media platform, best suited to their needs. It also offers the 'Ozone' tool to help individuals or teams create their moderation tool and apply it to the platform, focusing on a new approach towards content safeguards and restrictions tailored to their preferences.

This decentralized promise from Bluesky is slowly unraveling what it has in store for users, rivaling the likes of X and Threads in the current social media landscape.

Content moderation is popularly based on the policies of the company, but in Bluesky's terms, it is now allowing the use of third-party moderation services for all. In this new "stackable approach to moderation," Bluesky is giving content moderation power to users and communities, one that would best suit their needs and depend on their preferences.

Taking a jab against rival social media platforms like X and Meta, Bluesky said "The first generation of social media platforms connected the world, but ended up consolidating power in the hands of a few corporations and their leaders."

"Our online experience doesn't have to depend on billionaires unilaterally making decisions over what we see," the post added.

Design New Moderation Tools via Ozone

According to Bluesky, when first creating an account, users are subscribed to the default moderation service which they can also opt out of, with the team helping resolve user reports according to its community guidelines, whilst using an independent moderation tool.

Users may install said "filters" to the moderation services on the platform that will suit more of their preferences. And if that is not best suited for them, Bluesky also open-source its Ozone tool that will help create these new mods for a more intuitive approach.

Bluesky and What it Has to Offer

The decentralized take on social media came from none other than Jack Dorsey, the renowned CEO and co-founder of Twitter who first started with the original short-word social media as a decentralized platform. Moreover, the famed executive previously expressed his regrets for contributing to the centralization of the web, claiming that he misses the good old days.

With this sentiment, Dorsey introduced his take on a different social media experience known as Bluesky, best known for opening the beta testing phase to users after Elon Musk acquired Twitter two years ago.

One year later, Bluesky boasts of a massive achievement, sharing its 2 million user milestone since its launch in beta, and this is while the platform is invite-only.

Last month, Bluesky opened the social media to all users, and it is no longer an exclusive platform where one can get in via an existing user, with many flooding towards this open-source experience. Bluesky is flexing its decentralized approach to social media with this new third-party moderation service, one which also allows the users to create their mods, tailored to their preferences.
