A new feature for the desktop is here from Spotify, bringing the Miniplayer to users on PC to enjoy a seamless experience with the music streaming platform and boost multitasking. Instead of opening the Spotify desktop app's window every time users want to skip, pause, or jump songs or podcasts from time to time, users may do so without disrupting their flow.

This Miniplayer has been demanded by users for several years now, with Spotify fulfilling their requests to deliver improved desktop controls.

According to a recent blog post from Spotify's team, the desktop app now sports a Miniplayer that could be resized to whatever users prefer, offering a variety of views for how it could be integrated into the PCs. Using the Miniplayer is also seamless, said Spotify, as it would not disrupt the audio when switching from the main window of the app to the Miniplayer, or vice versa.

Through this feature, Spotify allows desktop users to skip songs, pause or play the music, volume controls, shuffle the queue, choose a playlist, and watch a podcast that features video through picture-in-picture.

Additionally, users may also remove a song from the queue or playlist in one click, allowing them to add their preferred tune to go next in line.

Minimize the Spotify Window

Spotify's Miniplayer features an adaptable design where users may resize it to meet their needs or preferences for when it appears on their desktop. It may be in a square which shows the song title and album art, or a sleek rectangular bar which only shows the player itself, or feature a small player for video-enabled podcasts.

To activate the feature, head to the main Spotify desktop app and head to the music player bar at the bottom of the screen. Here, the picture-in-picture logo (like with Netflix, YouTube, and more) is also its representation of the Miniplayer.

Spotify users may enjoy music streaming in the background, and it is one of the main and earliest features of the platform available, using its smartphone app, they do not have to worry about keeping the app open for their experience.

However, this is only for the smartphone app, and while desktop users may enjoy background streaming, they have to go back to the app window to play, pause, or skip their music.

It is unlike what Apple delivered for the Apple Music experience which made the MiniPlayer available to the Mac devices, offering various layouts that would help users choose what suits their setup most. This allows them to either see an album view, the small MiniPlayer itself, or an expanded one that also shows the queue.

That is now changing for Spotify, as the desktop experience got a massive update that brings forth a highly requested feature to arrive for its streaming service.

Now, instead of opening the Spotify desktop app now and then to do a quick action, the Miniplayer offers users a chance to do this without disrupting their workflow or studying session, with various functions available in its resizable window.
